The most unique style speakers that sound good?
MBL speakers. If you haven't heard them, make every effort to do so. When properly set up they are amazing. They prove that unique designs should not be discounted, just for the sake of being different.Cheers,Tom
Anyone have experience with Kaleidescape?
Kaleidescape is VERY nice...but VERY expensive. It's primarily for video, but it also supports audio. The interface is probably the best out there. Their website can provide more information for you.Cheers,Tom
lack of interest
I think "local buyer only" really limits the number of possible A'gon buyers. Rather than listing it that way, explore the costs of packaging and shipping to the East and West Coasts, and list it with the buyer and/or seller paying shipping. Have ...
salamander synergy 20 versus the rest
I also use a Synergy rack, a Trio 20 with 11" riser. I use a combination of shelves and rack mounts inside the three cabinet doors to hold the amps and power conditioning equipment. I have enclosed the sides and rear of the riser space, but left t...
High end fuse box options??
The QO series uses a solid copper buss bar. However it is electroplated to reduce oxidation and looks silver in color.Although I think that splitting the electricity immediately after the meter is better, I had room in my original outdoor 200A bre...
High end fuse box options??
I don't think the Isoclean is available yet. (At least it wasn't when I last checked.)Call them directly if you can to find out about it.I put in a subpanel for my audio/video equipment last summer and looked into audio-quality alternatives at tha...
A series of underperforming setups...Solution?
My immediate thought is that since you feel that EVERY system has underperformed, that it is most likely due to the room. Room acoustics can easily make or break the listening experience. First off, try moving your speakers further out into the ro...
Best Home Theater Amp
What speakers are you using? That might help us to provide you with better suggestions. Also, any particular reason you feel the need to upgrade from the Lexicon - not enough power, not the sound you like, etc.?? Any interest in the LX series?Anth...
Processor Recs
Take a look at AVS Forums for more information on these processors. You'll see lots of opinions and comments. I think your biggest decision is whether to invest in a consolidated audio and video processor, or keep these separate. There are advanta...
Starting a high-end audio shop... Am I crazy?
Just a couple comments on starting up online. Be aware that many (most) manufacturers have very strong no-internet sales policies. It defeats their dealership licensing agreements. That may restrict the pool of equipment you have the ability to se...
Cable Comparator
I think this is what you remember. Here's an article on the original comparator and its inventor, David Salz, of Straightwire and Wireworld.http://www.gspr.com/wireworld/_ww_bkgnd_fr.html
Home theater furniture - husband vs. wife
Another suggestion more along the furniture look rather than stereo stand look is The Custom Shoppe. They have a variety of styles and finishes, but more importantly you can customize not only the wood, doors, finishes, glass, hardware, etc., but ...
Installing dedicated lines. Which cable to use?
Unshielded 10-2 should be fine for your estimated lengths and for circuits up to 20amps. The dedicated circuits should help to eliminate some of the hum/buzz you're experiencing, but it all depends on where it is coming from. Romex is a brand name...
How Do I Build a Faraday Cage?
If you do a search on ask.com or the like you'll find a lot of information on construction, resources, etc. But as was said before it is basically a box made of conductive material that is grounded separately from your components. They're used to ...
Media storage
I found this company's products at a local furniture store. They can do a variety of things and you can choose custom sizes too. The sample pieces the store had looked quite nice for the money. Here's the manufacturer's website:http://www.customsh...
