Pass Labs XA.5 vs XA.8
I agree Don that the XA.8s draw more from the wall than the XA.5s.  I think it is 50% for the series (300 Watts vs 450 Watts draw). Your point is evident from the heat generated.   I've never had the XA.5 more than lukewarm whereas the XA.8 get re...
Pass Labs XA.5 vs XA.8
Don, I agree that why I'm demo-ing the XA100.8 against the XA100.5.  The observations above stem that the current direct comparisons.Ken at Reno Hi-Fi was very good to deal with as other have mentioned.  In the end, I think hearing is believing.
Pass Labs XA100.5 vs XA100.8 (evaluation)
My only long-term, big amp (non-Pass Labs) comparison was the McCormack DNA 225.  The Pass Labs XA60.5 had soul in comparison. All the traditional hi-fi stuff (transparency, micro-dynamics, quietness, etc) seemed better with the Pass Labs, althoug...
Pass Labs XA.5 vs XA.8
I took the leap and am demoing the XA100.8.  It's only been a few days but I can make the following observations.1)  Greater reserves.  More in line with what the Magnepan 3.71i dual DWMs seem to need. The objective evidence being that the meter's...
Pass Labs XA.5 vs XA.8
All pass amplification.  X1 and X-Onocables are all audience au24 se. Balanced, unbalanced and speaker (both between amp and DWM and DWM and 3.7i).
Magnepan 3.7i with two (2) DWMs with Pass Labs XA100.5
P.S. you are completely right about the 1 ohms.  It probably too much even for the mighty Pass Labs.
Magnepan 3.7i with two (2) DWMs with Pass Labs XA100.5
Thanks for your response.  Yes, you are interpreting my set-up correctly.  By parallel I meant one tab of each mono-block to the main speaker and the other tab of the same mono-block to the DWM.  By in series, I meant one tab of each mono-block to...
Phono Stage Hiss
Thanks for the clarification of hiss vs hum. I only get hum (which kinda-of sound similar but not the same) when I disconnect the ground wire at the back of the X-Ono.I agree it is simply the noise floor. I'm tempted to use the low-gain at pre-amp...
Magnepan 1.7 to 3.7i or Pass Labs XA60.5 to X100.5
Other posters have mentioned that the X60.5 are sufficient to drive the 3.7. Phone calls with my dealer, pass labs and magnepan all seem to suggest the same. All they all said more is better. As the prove of the pudding is in the tasting, I plan on...
Magnepan 1.7 to 3.7i or Pass Labs XA60.5 to X100.5
Dealer: Audio ConsultantsAs for opening the door, the room does not have a door. The opening is essentially a double doorway.Subs may be the way to go. Thanks again.
Magnepan 1.7 to 3.7i or Pass Labs XA60.5 to X100.5
Thanks for thoughts. I never thought of the room as small, but I guess it's all relative. Not that it matters, but I actually took the time to measure it. It's actually 18' x 15'. The only reason I was thinking of 3.7i rather than 1.7 was the adde...
Review: JMLab Electra 920.1 Speaker
I'm one of those crazy audiophiles who has invested far more than sanity should allow in my system. And I've been more than pleased with my PSB Stratus Gold i's, although they are by far the least expensive component in my system. To tell the trut...
Review: Sony SC-D777es CD Player
Nice review. Is the sound relaxed? What CD player did you use before?
Pass X-250 or McCormack DNA-2 Deluxe
I have been using Pass pre-amplification (X-1 and X-ONO) and have loved the combination, so I can't say anything bad about Pass Labs. The entire X-series has received pretty much universal applause. But if you are looking for bass slam and mucho d...
