Upgrade turntable or buy a record cleaning machine
Not sure what cartridge you're using on the mmf-7.1 but unless it's something better than a Dynavector 20XL, I disagree with Audiofeil. That said, IF you're fairly serious about listening to LPs and either already have hundreds of them and/or plan...
More convinced of analog than ever
So how were the presentations? Anything new and interesting? I wish that I lived closer to Seattle (I'm on the "other side of the mountains") so that I could take advantage of the great opportunities afforded the Puget Sound crowd.Tom
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
"...Tracker cartridge, hence the post for a better one." If you decide to keep the mmf-2.2 (nothing wrong with having two turntables :-) then you might find a Goldring 10xx series cartridge for a reasonable price. I upgraded from the Tracker to a ...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
Gerald, Thanks for adding some important information. I haven't seen the 2.2 myself but the arm does look like a decent Pro-Ject aluminum tonearm. It appears to be a big step up from the original arm on the 2.1, which I used for a while. I mention...
MC for MusicHall MMF2.2
Not sure if Pro-Ject/Music Hall still puts a steel platter on the mmf-2.x turntables but you want to be careful about using a moving coil cartridge with a strong magnetic pull on a ferrous platter. It'll collapse the cantilever.Tom
Record Clamps?
The Music Hall clamp shouldn't continue spinning (and causing label wear) as you clamp it onto the record label. It's a two-piece design and the actual clamp disc shouldn't spin as you turn the locking knob down. Try bending the spring clip slight...
Help Me Justify Recent MMF7 purchase
I wouldn't change out the Eroica H just yet. It's not a bad cartridge and is easy to maintain. (It isn't too fussy about alignment and you can easily see the stylus for cleaning and for experimenting with cartridge alignment.) Tvad mentions he fou...
Question for Jolida JD9A owners
It's a good phono preamp for the money and is fairly versatile. I ran a 2.5mV HOMC cartridge through one and it sounded pretty good. I wish Jolida provided a better range of loading options for low output MC cartridges though.I'm not familiar with...
Help Me Justify Recent MMF7 purchase
I've been running a mmf-7 turntable for over three years and still enjoy listening to vinyl just about every night I can. As I've upgraded components (phono preamp, cartridge, speakers) the mmf-7 has allowed the music to sound better and better wi...
Whats the best Cartridge for a bright Pro-ject 9 ?
If you have a 20XL and are running it at 100 Ohms loading with your MF X-LPS than it may sound a tad bright. If you have a 20XH and are running it at 47K it may also sound a little bright. Running the 20XH at 100 Ohms may dampen it too much, but i...
Whats the best Cartridge for a bright Pro-ject 9 ?
Keep the 20X and try a warmer sounding phono stage. Perhaps a tubed unit. One that allows the cartridge to be loaded a bit. If you're after a "warm" sounding system you may have to reconsider the whole chain and not rely on the cartridge to get wh...
Music Hall 7 owners
a Audio-Technica AT33PTG LOMC cartridge for the past year and now have a Dynavector DV 20XL LOMC on my other mmf-7. (Economic stimulus check paid for this cartridge.) Both cartridges sound great with the mmf-7. I had to buy/modify heavier counterw...
