Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
Wrong! Clearly you don’t know anything about Violins and there is no comparison that makes any sense between an old Violin and an old speaker. An ideal speaker should have no voice of its own. The problem of this statement is comparing real speake...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
I also recently rediscovered the horn speakers. I had considered them as speakers for nostalgic people, but I think I was wrong. It has a charm that my current speaker doesn’t have. The one I heard was definitely not screaming, but I was not sure ...
Help wanted: Bass!
A friend of mine once showed me how he can get a great bass using an Equalizer. The difference is night and day, very impressed. Unfortunately I do not have enough knowledge doing it.
JBL L300 - true myth?
JBL L300 is Nelson Pass’s all time favorite speakers, he says. It must be really good. I would like to hear it.
Can headphones ever be as good as high end stereo?
I liked my headphone (HD800) much more than my previous speakers until I got my current speakers. I don't think the best headphone can't beat really good speakers in terms of the whole listening experience, but headphone can probably be more enjoy...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
I own modern speakers and I have never heard any real vintage speakers. I’m very curious how they sound because I have a few 60’s vintage guitars, guitar amps and vintage microphones, which sound so much better than any of new ones for some reason...

The vast majority people do not care the sound quality these days, I think...
What in the world is going on.....
I heard this recording on Tidal HiFi, and it sounds good to me. This is not a particularly bad sounding recording, I think.
What in the world is going on.....
inna, thank you for the response. I agree, the problem is I'm now too conscious of the sound quality of the recoding after I bought my high resolution system. Once I accustomed to it, it would be OK, I wish.
JBL Everest DD67000 vs. Avantgarde Duo Mezzo
Thank you again for your advice, phusis, Yes, as you guessed, I think I don't still know what is my ultimate preference, or I am not enough confident with my preference. For people who prefer the speakers that Stereophile ignores, (in this case AT...
What in the world is going on.....
"Well, bad recording will of course sound bad on anything but it will still sound better with better equipment. You are talking nonsense."Inna, I honestly feel differently. My current high resolution system unveils the badness of the bad recording...
McIntosh and Autoformers. . .?
I own B&W 800D, and I don’t think McIntosh is the best amp for B&W. It sounded rather awful when I demoed one. I love how it looks, so I will try again when I change my speakers. (planning now).Edit yes, I also think First Watt is a much b...
mcintosh vs jeff rowland
My dealer once demonstrated a few different amps, and since then I can detect the 3D sound stage. In my experience, class-A amps tend to project this 3D image, but I don’t know if all the class-A can do or the other classes can’t do. I have heard ...
JBL Everest DD67000 vs. Avantgarde Duo Mezzo
Thank you phusis,  I'm not sure if I understand correctly what you explained here, but I think what I'm impressed with ATC and JBL is exactly what you described here, dynamics, presence and ease. I wish I can confidently choose my next speakers, b...
