Job amps: Suck?
Madavido Why do you ask? Agree with bigshutterbug. Try "nice", it really works.
The Best Piano Works of the 20th Century
Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue", a uniquely American piece always has to be included in 20th century piano music. I agree with all of gregm's choices less  the Massiaen piece but will sure check it out! The impressionistic work Clair de lune by Debu...
Eric Clapton on J.J. Cale
Thanks for the background and story bdp24. Great topic and thread!
Simaudio P5 or Conrad Johnson ET5
Another option, not discussed enough IMHO, would be upgrading what you currently have with premium parts. You might be amazed as to what is possible. I’d call Bill Thalmann of Music Technology, Backert labs and Jeff Fischelk at CJ for different op...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
As it always is, synergy and electrical compatibility would determine what vintage amplifier might be more preferable so as not to keep you waiting for ebm’s crystal ball.
Conrad-Johnson PV 11 preamp tube dilemma
Agree with Stereo5, why waste time installing tubes to compensate for a dull perception caused simply by installing new interconnects? No need to overthink, this is not a tube issue, could be a cable breakin issue or maybe a case of it taking time...
Reference 3a Grand Veena for a small room?
Meiatflask, to answer part of your question, while I have not directly compared the Proacs to the Decapos I expect that if may be a matter of preference. I generally stay away from recommending one thing over another but suffice to say I much pref...
Reference 3a Grand Veena for a small room?
Funny you  ask the question as I just heard a pair in just such a space last night, very close to the front wall. The results were better than I anticipated. No boom a few resonances at some frequencies but overall pretty darn impressive, amazing ...
Anthony Bourdain dead at 61
Yes Igolar, his mental state during the Berlin episode is evident. It is probably the darkest episode of this series. The silences after the comments of these troubled/depressed individuals is deafening. I can’t imagine how much it might have cont...
Replacing generic RECEPTACLES
Agree with the last 2 posts regarding the inexpensive but quite effective Porter Ports and hospital grade +cryo treated = why not, doesn’t cost too much more. Funny to me how so many folks I KNOW spend 100.00 or more for fancy fuses and STILL have...
Danny Kirwan has passed away
Excellent comments Marty on Kirwin's contributions to this band. It was a magical time, certainly not having the commercial success of the Nicks/Buckingham period but offering a major contribution to the body of work of this special band from thei...
Anthony Bourdain dead at 61
It is amazing how true Mark Twain’s words resonate today as the days they were first penned, thanks for that! Yes, Anthony really brought that realization to all of us through his travels and great gift of tying things together to give us a sense ...
Superb sounding Guarneri String Quartet bargain
Thanks folkfreak, always looking for excellent string quartet recordings. A recent release  I purchased CD, not vinyl by The Danish String Quartet of Nordic folk music. "Last Leaf", extraordinary recording, wondurful music. I like it so much I am ...
New D'Agostino Monoblocks...$250,000
Anyway you look at it, 250k for an amplifier is simply nuts in the context of listening to reproduced music. What in the world does it have to do with anything other than some deep pocketed narcissist'  power to show off his latest acquistion to t...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I hear you Ralph, whatever "floats" a boat in the scheme of a specific business model. Nick's designs seem ever evolving from one idea to the next. I like that approach, kind of, but the problem is there is no definitive end, just a continuing wor...
