Turntable info
You'll likely need a high-output cartridge. Most receivers with phono stages are designed for the higher output of a moving magnet cartridge and the 47k input loading. I didn't look at your Onkyo's specs but you'll probably be okay with a cartridg...
Did you get your new Music Direct catalogue yet?
>>When you call them to get the RA#, they pressure you to keep the item. <<That has never happened to me and I've returned two items to them in the last 6 months. One of them a tubed integrated amp. Not a peep of hard-sell. They only w...
Pro-ject 9cc for the Volvere
Ensure that you get an armboard adapter for that arm for the Volvere. Is that arm based on the Rega RB series of arms? If so, no problem but the geometry must be the same.
VAC 160i, any experiences
Any new input on the VAC Sigma 160i? The version with MC option is near the top of my list ........ Can anyone compare it's sonics to the Modwright LS100 tube preamp paired with the KWA100SE amp? I'd use my AAV1 into the preamp on the Modwright c...
What tonearm and cartridge for Avid Sequel TT?
That's a really fine turntable! I have a Volvere SP with a SME IV.Vi arm and a Benz Ruby Z cartridge. Phono amp is a Art Audio Vinyl One. I'm curious about your table improvement decision -- it appears to be like trading-in a 1950 Chevy for a 2012...
Best steak to eat while listening to your rig?
Rare Ribeye with the largest "skirt piece" (don't know the butcher-shop correct name for it) to eye ratio. That skirt piece (the part surrounding the eye) is awesome! And get it at your local natural foods supermarket. Here we have local beef rais...
Record Revirginizer
Mikeba316,>>The guy recommended to clean even before first play. He said that even with the initial play the needle can push in any contaminant that may be on the album surface and make it harder to clean later.<<He spoke the truth. I ...
Is a DAC Worth It With Airport Express
A Pacific Valve Moon DAC (now "Fathom") sure made an easily heard improvement in our upstairs small system. I've not had issues with cutouts as the post above describes.
Review: : M-CD Mat :The Millennium CD Mat: Tweak
Bump. Anyone else with the Oppo BDP-83 having issues or success with this disc? I was set to buy one for my Oppo BDP-83 until I read about the alignment problem.
Cartridges & Sensitivity to VTF
Dre j,I'm currently tracking the Ruby 3 at 1.99 grams, and very, very slight tail up VTA. I plan to try a lower VTF because one of the guys at VA has a Ruby 3 and posted that 1.85 grams with a slight tail drag worked well for him. I've never used ...
Cartridges & Sensitivity to VTF
Benz Ruby 3, I've used it for almost 2 years and find it is incredibly sensitive to very small changes in both VTF and VTA. Much less than a mm on VTA, e.g., a single turn of the screw on a SME IV.Vi, and 0.02 grams VTF.Part of the reason I change...
Help ...... excesssssssive sssssssssssssssssssss
Have you noticed any change in sibilance across the LP (i.e., outer track compared to inner track and middle track)? Also, try increasing your tracking force to 2.0 grams. Finally, try a different alignment protractor. Also, and my apologies if y...
CD format war and resultant music players
The next "audiophile" media will be vinyl. Oops, its already happening. Vinyl and vinyl playback systems are booming, and CD and SACD sales are dropping.
20 amp dedicated lines
My two dedicated 20 amp lines, with FIM-880 outlets, did improve the bass. My friend the electrician, not an audiophile, even noticed it.However, I don't think electrical is your problem. I recently had a similar condition, i.e., lean sound with a...
Best wall-mounted home theater speakers?
Out of my range too!Paradigm makes some in-wall speakers (or at least did). Check their website. I have Paradigm Ref. 60's in a separate home theater system, and I had them in my audio system until I upgraded speakers.
