Need small size speakers for fireplace.
Fwiw, I recently traded for a pair of Silverline Minuets. Smallest speaker I've owned. I've been delighted with them and they are reviewed positively. The used price is probably 3-400. They are rear ported but I have read of them being used in a b...

Spencer,I'm assuming the Audiopoints were used under floorstanders. Any experience using them on standmount speakers?Anyone-My Minuets are sitting on the top plate of spiked steel stands. In fact, they are resting on thin, circular foam type dots ...

I don't think I've ever heard a high end sub in a 2 channel outfit. I own an SVS sound cylinder and use it in a small theater room. The sub I'm using with the Minuets is a dual 8" Mirage. It's probably okay but nothing like you guys are talking ab...

Speaking of subs, I decided to try a dual 8" driver sub with the Minuets today. Sounds pretty good but I'm still adjusting things. Before inserting the sub a buddy came by and after listening told me he had to have a pair of Minuets- he was impres...

Ghosthouse, Newbee,In my post I should have written rear wall and instead wrote front wall. But thanks for answering the question I should have asked!I generally position speakers in my main listening room about 1/3 of the length of the room- 6ft....

I appreciate your insight on the Plus, it sounds like it may be a good fit.If I could trouble you a little more, how far into the room did your Plus's settle to give you the stage depth you mentioned? I know rooms are different, etc, but it seems ...

Ghosthouse,Great info, thanks. I feel pretty safe buying blind sometimes - no hifi dealers near me in Arkansas, unfortunately. Some of your descriptions match how I feel about the Minuets. I tried to explain to an audio buddy today how they sound, ...

Thanks, Ghosthouse, glad you are enjoying them. If they are like the tiny Minuets, I bet they are awesome!I keep an eye out for the Prelude and Plus, and Newbee recommended adding some other models to the list.Maybe due to time on the market, I se...

Newbee,Thanks for the info. I wondered if the Prelude and Prelude Plus would be more of the same. Not any dealers close, unfortunately. May have to plan a mini vacation/ audition. Of course I'll keep an eye out on here. I'm much more willing to ta...
My Musical Fidelity amp died..What's next?
I own the Anthem 225 and it easily drives my speakers (none are super power hungry) and sounds great, IMO. I went to the Anthem to simplify my setup and have been happy. May be worth an audition if you have access.Best.Gary
Bowers and Wilkerson B&W 802 D3: an impolite Brit?
Forgive me being non-technical, but isn't it just a matter of taste? I had some 801 s3, I didn't like them because to me they sounded good on just a few CDs. I told the buyer I didn't like them and played several average CDs for him and he loved t...
Advice on using a laser for speaker positioning
Stringreen, I had a pair of Vandersteen 2 ce sigs, the laser would have saved me- I used the 'plum bob' method in the manual.I'll check into that book, sgunther, thanks!Jkalman, not sure what a minoc is, but the redhead can defend the species I su...
Advice on using a laser for speaker positioning
I'll check out the App Store, thanks for the heads up!I rearranged my listening room and am trying different speaker positions. Currently the speakers are 6-7' apart, which is less than 'normal', and I'm enjoying the change. Any tools that make th...
Advice on using a laser for speaker positioning
Thanks everybody, sounds like opinions are mixed and the laser may be more useful for rake, angles, etc than for measuring distance. The redhead will probably have me doing something around the house that will give me an excuse to pick one up and t...
