Doubling a Set of Speaker Cables
@almarg Thank you for the excellent information. Have you any direct experience with Paul Spelt's Zero- Autoformers? It seems to me that they have the opposite effect over doubling (or more) a speaker cable run, do I understand that correctly?
Music Server format?
I am afraid this is a personal decision, but there are several things to keep in mind. If you start with a recording and convert it, the most you will get in the conversion is the same quality albeit in a different format. If you are not careful i...
Power conditioner help
So, based on comments here and elsewhere I called Transparent and asked about their power conditioners. The young guy was very nice, and he tried to be helpful but alas, he could not give me a technical explanation for his marketing/sales spiel. T...
Raven Audio Tube amps
@mtrot ...If you liked tube amplification, you would love a really well-made tube-powered CD player.
A nice read on tubes!
Thanks for the link, it was a good read. Some of the comments are savage, but a few solid points are made in them.
The most transparent speaker cable
I'm still listening to my cheap AntiCables and loving what I both hear and don't hear. The only real temptation I have is to follow the Tempo Electric recipe for big-twist speaker cables, but again... I like what I have now and paid less than $300...
Raven Audio Tube amps
I posted above, this is an update. I moved the Raven Blackhawk LE from my living room system into my home office where I previously had some excellent solid state Parasound gear (the "Z" half-width rack-mountable gear, very good). Well... All I ca...
What cables are you using for a hidden in wall clean look? I have B&W 802 D3s coming.
@mgould This is one link: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/inwallrating.htmHere are a few quotes from that link:"The main purpose of NEC is to prevent hazards to human health and safety from wiring, and these fall primarily in a few categori...
Power conditioner help
This is a very interesting thread. As far as balanced power goes, I have only read a little about this and all of it has been vendor material. I have yet to get an audio amp manufacturer (other than PS Audio) to weigh in, and would welcome that.@j...
Power conditioner help
@jay23 What is behind my attitude is the disconnect between my experiences, the experiences of those I know and in contrast what a few posts here stated. Taken together they do not agree: Hence the question — what gear, what circumstances? I asked...
Anyone using Speltz Anti cables XLRs
My understanding is that XLR is such a leap over RCA (signal quality, especially over longer cable runs) that even a decent but budget XLR will bring advantages over a high-end RCA.  The problem is that most vendors do not include XLR interconnect...

@bcowen  My understanding about "plenum rated" cables is that code has to do with a fire combusting the insulation and thereby creating toxic smoke. The AntiCables seem to not fall into that category, but they are not plenum rated nor are they des...

@reynolds853 [ shhh! don’t tell them how great an amp the Ayon Triton III is... I pulled the superior but failure-prone original Ayon KT88 BTSX tubes (@$180 each) and am just now getting the replacement Gold Lions into the fully-burned-in state. I...
Power conditioner help
I commented earlier (above) on this, but I am simply astonished at the comments that poo-poo buffering power regenerators. Not a single negative comment rings true in my personal experience over at least 10 years of use with numerous different reg...
which budget FM Tuner
What fun! vintage tuners! You should have numerous options in great gear at the used $200 price point. ...And, if you don't like it -- hello audiogon and good-bye experiment. I picked up a SUMO tuner last year, and it's quite the little tuner! Gre...
