Acapella vs. Avantgarde
TBG- noticed you are selling your Campagnilles. What's next for you? And, in fairness to Sdrs, the speakers do require critical set-up and associated equipment. Your point, that even with all that, they have shortcomings, does not suprise me, nor ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Doug: The Phaeton was a passing fancy. I don't need a big car (no kids, wife and I often drive separate cars to the city) and frankly, I don't like to drive big sedans. I have also never bonded with the Audis for some reason- great cars, but leave...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Cars can make hi-fi seem downright cheap.
Acapella vs. Avantgarde
I know it is unfair to bring price into the equation when we are striving for the uncompromised sound. Just wanted to interject a little 'levitation' into the proceedings, to paraphrase one of my favorite actors.
Acapella vs. Avantgarde
One other question, which is a cost/benefit one (how dare I?).THe Duos, used are 7k dollars or so. A decent amp to drive them less than that. What is the ballpark cost-used- of the recommended Acapella set-up with appropriate amplification?

I really liked the Phaeton, and the only reason I didn't buy one (well, there were several) was that the dealers were totally clueless and the wait for one in that piano black with the fitted rear seats was long- they were not stocking the best on...
Acapella vs. Avantgarde
Amfibius: A comparison with the Quads yields what I like best about the Avantgardes (and probably to a good extent, horn speakers in general). The coherence of the Quads is hard to beat- to my ears the 57 is better than the later Quads. (I have no...
Bought my first new audiophile LP...back it goes
Alone Together- remember the original vinyl release? Looked like somebody had puked on the TT.
Acapella vs. Avantgarde
As regards the woofers, and integration on the Duos, I have had to fool around with this because, out of the box, I was not pleased. The horns, once broken in, sound very open and alive, but the woofer had two apparent shortcomings- (1)it simply s...
Bought my first new audiophile LP...back it goes
I just got the new Diana Krall as well- the center hole was not punched through, and the vinyl surface is noisy and distorted- very disappointing. Some of the others from Classic have been superb.
Acapella vs. Avantgarde
Can't speak to the Acapella but can give you insight into the Duo, which I bought a little more than a year ago, after more than 30 years of Quad electostat (57/Crosby 63) listening. The horn 'honk' is virtually nonexistent if the upstream equipmen...
What? No Norah Jones New CD Thread?
Alot. But in ways that don't make it obvious that there is anything wrong with the Audiopax amps. To the contrary. With the right tube complement, and adjustments to the timbre lock feature, the Audiopax amps are incredibly lively, musical and pre...
HiFi lacking social recognition?
GregM- sure, lifestyle may describe it just as well. But, when I was in my late teens, one of our activities was to sit around and 'listen' to music. Today, I'm not sure that is true, either for our generation (with the exception of audiophiles) o...
What? No Norah Jones New CD Thread?
Got rid of the finite elemente heavy duty stand that I bought for the Kuzma XL, given that it didn't really do much to isolate with my springy wooden floors; the HRS platform atop my Chinese prayer table works just fine, as shown in the pics of my...
What? No Norah Jones New CD Thread?
no, I didn't want my statement to be perceived as a 'racial' statement. Not disputing what you said. are we ok?
