Acoustic absorber panel question
2s vote for realtraps- probably not as cheap as DYI, but extremely cost effective for what you get. Particularly the Mondo bass traps. Also, read the info on their site, pretty helpful.

Bob- thanks for chiming in. One nice thing about this 'hobby' is that you can interact directly with the designers. I'll keep my eyes out- your products are among the most highly regarded in our analog world. Regards,
Classic speakers to hunt down used
I owned, listened to and sold many of those speakers in the early 70's. The AR-KLH-Advent followed a certain lineage of Henry Kloss and the Advents easily outplayed most of the comparable box speakers in the day. The big AR3a was probably a better...
The Single Piece That Started Today's HIGH END ?
I was around, and geeked on audio in in early 1970's. I think you have to separate the US, European and Japanese markets as very distinct from each other at that time. In the US, there was an 'old school' consisting of Marantz tube equipment (7c p...

Thnx, Rwd. Nice Revox (what was that, an A-77? It's been so long and that nomenclature just popped into my head). I also spied what looked like a smoked Cohiba, perhaps an Esplendido, in the ashtray. I won't ask where that cigar came from. :)Regar...

NOt a bad thought. The Olympus is on the high side of expensive cartridges, but the 'trade in' allowance for my Parnassus apparently takes account of the fact that it is an early one, having platinum plates sourced from unobtainium, and is what is...

Gonna try the big Transfiguration- have a old Parnassus that is readily trade-up-able to a Titan- have a Van de Hul something or other sitting around- and my old friend George has insisted that I try a couple, including the Colibri. Why, any sugge...

well, I think i've settled on the Kuzma Reference TT with a Triplanar arm. I'll let you know what I think once it is delivered and running. Thanks again for everybody's input.
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
Steelhead? I'm using it right now with an old Parnassus, and the flexibility in settings is quite nice. It also sounds very neutral as far as I can tell- using in an entirely new system so I can't isolate how it is performing, other than to note t...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Oh, no- this is an area of interest that made hi-fi seem reasonable by comparsion. I quit driving for about 20 years when I lived in NYC. No need to have a car, or to drive. When we finally got a car for weekend trips (a new E class MB, which fran...
Which NYC Dealers REALLY know how to setup a TT?
IN my experience the folks you want are not dealer employees, but independents. I'll find out if the guy who helped me is willing to allow me to disclose his name publicly. He did superb work on my recent reentry into 'the life' and is known as on...

Speakers for Marantz 7 & 8B
KLH 9's; Janzens on top of old AR bottoms; Quad 57's; big vintage horns.
quad vs. quad ESL
I have 57's and Crosby modded 63's. The 57's midrange is uncanny, but the speaker has so many limitations, at least in single pair form, that I compromised by going to the 63, which can play louder, and has some apparent bass. The 57 is, in my est...
