How to meaningfully audition speakers??
Bifwynne/OP: As many have already said, it often boils down to buy and try, prefereably used, so as not to take too big a financial hit. Right now I am A/B/C'ing three different pairs of monitors. All three are great speakers, but each is unique. ...
Does anyone know of a good 3-way bookshelf speaker
KEF 201/2, top ported, so can get closer to the back wall, although perhaps a bit large to be consider "bookshelf." Also, the Linn Akurate 212, albeit a 4-way, is compact but delivers BIG TIME -- way underrated around here.
Room size & choosing speakers
Need to correct my post, our listening space is 2X the size of the OP's room, not 3X (wish it was).
Room size & choosing speakers
To be sure, monitors are the way to go under your circumstnces. While the Mac/B&W is a nice pairing, IMHO, better results can be had. As a threshold matter, I suggest integrating a sub from the outset (e.g., JL F110 would be plenty in 10x12 ro...
Kef 201/2 your impressions and comparisons
Ah, my error on the the Cayin power rating (I read the specs too quickly). I am not familiar with the amp, but your experience speaks well of it. Good luck with the 201/2. I'm running a JL F112 with them. Keep adjusting and you'll get them synched...
Kef 201/2 your impressions and comparisons
Interesting that the OP found the 50W Cayin A100T had enough juice to drive the KEF 201/2. I have had a pair for about two months and found it a difficult load to drive. They like power and high current, with lots of reserve to maximize dynamics. ...
tv stand for pass labs amp?
Get in touch with Steve Blinn -- ads here on A'Gon. Complete custom designs to fit your needs, reliable, reasonable. No, I'm not affiliated with him; just a satisfied customer. (BTW, I just picked up an X250.5. Yikes, nice amp indeed.)
Small Speakers For A Large Room...
Linn Akurate 212. When paired with a good sub dialed in just right, the 212's deliver big time. And, in any event, which ever monitors you choose, if you go with a monitor/sub combination, consider using a crossover, to take the bass burden off th...
Best monitor for under $4000.00
Given your music preferences, beyond the choices listed above, you should consider: Dynaudio C1. Perfect for your music and room size. Now that the model has been and updated, you should be able to find some C1's around here for at (or perhaps sli...
mcintosh 452 amp
The MC452 is a very good amp, but its input impedence is 22K Ohms, and it does not mate well with ever tube pre. Our CJ Act 2.2 (output impedence 500 Ohms) sounded flat and lacked bass with the 452. We fixed it by inserting a with Pass XVR-1 exter...
Pass Labs XVR-1 crossover
We have had the XVR-1 in the system for a year and are very pleased with it. It is capable of literally thousands of different cross-over configuarations at different slope adjustments. Importantly, however, you should be aware that this XO requir...
Anyone audition the new mcintosh 452 amplifier?
Dethklok: What prompted you to switch from the XA 30.5 to MC452? We have had the MC452 for a year and like it a lot, with no complaints. That said, I am wondering about switching from the MC42 to Pass X250.5, mostly to take advantage of the 15 ini...
Which to Switch: the Mac or the Act?
Zd542: the Pass XVR-1 takes care of two birds with one stone: (1) the Linn Akurate 212 is a monitor, and the XO splits the signal (I have it set at 78 Hz, 18 db slope) to relieve the monitors of bass duty, and the JL F112 handles all the low stuff...
preamp for MC452 Mcintosh amp
When we brought the MC452 into our system with the existing CJ Act 2 Series 2, there was a serious impedence mismatch. Because the MC452's input impedence is 22K Ohms, you should consider possible impedence issues with any tube preamp. We then int...
Macintosh MC452 or Mark Levinson 532H
"The new MC452 has been slammed by the followers . . . " Really? Who/Where?
