Two Protractors - Only One Aligns
peter s,You said; "But shouldn't the alignment lines be parallel to the grooves if they occur at null points? This makes the cantilever parallel to the grooves."Yes.  It's the grooves that are not parallel to each other at the two null points.  A...
Two Protractors - Only One Aligns
peter s,You said; "By definition, the null points are the two points where the cantilever is tangent to the record groove, and this is not effected by the "curvedness" (or flatness) of the arc." As I stated, the null point distance from the record...
Two Protractors - Only One Aligns
peter s,Sorry, I found your OP a bit confusing, I thought your Mint was made for 250 mm. Never-the-less, the Mint arc is specific to the P2S. A Mint arc for 290 P2S will have a flatter arc than one for 250. The null points have the same distance f...
Herron VTPH-2A Phono Preamp....anyone familiar?
Has anyone here compare a Herron to an ARC PH7? Mine is getting long in the tooth and if the Herron compares or exceeds I would love the added flexibility.
Two Protractors - Only One Aligns
peter s,The arc on your Mint has a radius that works only at 250 mm P2S.   Both null points cannot be aligned simultaneously with ANY error in the P2S.  I chased a sibilance problem for a year before realizing this (original VPI JMW 10 arm - spec ...
OPINIONS PLEASE - Phonostage for new Rega P8/Apheta 2 - Sutherland 20/20 or Allnic 1201
fsmithjack,I did the same and for the same reasons a few months back when I ditched my VPI unipivot and went for the RP-10/Apheta 2 combo.  No regrets.
If you love SET amplifiers, boy do I have speaker for you.
Ooops!The 1995 85 dB Model 50 has been replaced with the 101 dB Jamaica ... https://www.nsmt-loudspeakers.com
Problem of compensating with cable a component tone problem?
jtcf, "installing a warm or cool cable should be akin to adding just enough of a spice to a stew to bring out and enhance the flavor to perfection."Exactly.  No system is neutral.  Next years new components will show you what neutral really is.  a...
Seeking advice on possible VPI turntable upgrade
"I have to force myself to stop listening in the evenings so I can get some sleep!"Don't chase your tail.  Every time I've replaced a component with a superior one there has always been a trade off.  You may lose something fun about the old piece.
Problem of compensating with cable a component tone problem?
If it really is a problem component it makes sense.  Replace the component.  To say there is no place for a warm or cool cable assumes a perfectly neutral system.  Own one?  What cables are you using?  Seriously.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
I'm skeptical when I hear a cartridge is aligned perfectly in all parameters.  I read this post as azimuth parallel to the record, mid VTF,  VTA is admittedly off and, since no break-in is mentioned, a used - maybe very used - lower end cart.  The...
Greatest debut album
Here's a list of my "smoke 'em if you got 'em" albums to add to your collection.  Debut, maybe not.  http://www.vpiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=8981
Seller is responsible to get item to you, intact. yes? or no?
It's on the seller.  Imagine the increase in already broken products being shipped if it were otherwise.  UPS does allow either the buyer or seller to make a claim.  As a buyer I won't.  A rejected claim could become my problem in the sellers eyes.
VPI Aries 3 - Funk Firm 3mm Acromat
FunkFirm makes the 3mm mat for tables without adjustable VTA and it sounds great on my Rega.  I suspect that is a compromise and the 5mm mat may be superior.
recommendation for speaker wire to soften the highs if possible
gunmetalzin,I had the early nineties Monster "Powerline 2" speaker cable for some time.  If that's what you have it's Nasty Stuff.  I suggest the Acoustic Zen Satori I use (of course).  It can be easily found used at your price point.  It clears o...
