Where is TVAD (Grant) ? Perhaps this may help. Click on the link provided by Al. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/where-s-tvad? It seems that many of the old-timers just found another life that doesn't require a keyboard. Or perhaps they just spend all of their free time perusing Facebook now. ;^) |
I'm here lurking! I built a system I enjoy, and once the equipment chase and churn was over, I let the Audiogon forum experience go. Here is an ironic anecdote. Many of us have spent hours upon hours, and lots of disposable income trying to quiet our systems. Mine had a persistent ground loop hum that I worked on for YEARS. It would come and go depending on the electronics I owned. I tried so many tweaks it made my wife's head spin. I installed dedicated AC lines, and a whole house power filter/surge protector. At one point, we remodeled our kitchen, and part of the remodel involved a partial re-wire of the service panel. Nothing fancy. Added a breaker as I recall. Some of the circuits were re-wired...but no attention was paid to the dedicated audio circuits. At the end of the remodel, my system was dead quiet. Go figure! Hope you are well, Bon. |
Hi Grant, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that I never submitted a post there; I just used that forum for research purposes before buying the car. And I was registered there under a different screen-name. In any event, I hope the car has been treating you as well as mine has been treating me. Mine has been perfection, for four years now! Although it doesn't have all that many miles on it, in part because my wife and I are retired and don't do any commuting, and in part because its high performance tires make it unsuitable for use here during much of the winter. Best, -- Al |
Thanks Al. Just want to say I enjoy reading your posts. I don't post often but your interest in stereo and electronics are a learning read. tvad, I've been lurking long enough to say I enjoyed reading your posts also for about the same reasons. Good to see some of the old-timers still around. Darn good cars Porsche though I'm old enough that Janis Joplin's 356 seems like a mighty fine ride! I wish. https://2c27809e61cd41c3b4f8d8995798bc09.objectstore.eu/media/750x/0.yw3mte75zjbg40a1uhpzrrudi-janis-joplin-and-her-porsche.jpg |
I miss Nate, nrchy. He’s probably off riding his hog some where. Joe, Trelja, is a force of nature as well. Thanks so much for the kudos Grogan; it’s greatly appreciated. As for me, I think that I have become, somewhat less caustic, and less likely to wade into the swamp at times. Don’t know if that is a good, or bad, thing. They say that testosterone levels plummet as you age. Maybe I should get tested. |
Boss302, thank you kindly for the nice words. On another note, I'd like to add one more name to the list of those who are missed here. That would be Bryoncunningham. During the several years he was here, which ended about five years ago, he stimulated and contributed to discussions that IMO were uncommonly thoughtful, intelligent, and enjoyable. Best regards, -- Al |
Tireguy, I met you sometime back in around 2000. You were taking care of your father and running the business. My wife had started her second career and was going to Albany School of Pharmacy. You stopped by my place and listened to a few of my recordings on my modded out Maggie’s 2b’s. I think that got you interested in them and brought you on your Maggie journey. I hope all all is well and enjoy your new journey. Children certainly bring a new meaning to life and help with prioritizing the important things in life. BTW, there are some amazing things you can do with an older pair of 3A’s, which can be had cheap. They were the last pair of Maggie’s I owned, which I totally Hot Rodded. If you are able to get the space again to properly run a pair it is an affordable way to get the great Maggie sound. However, I too down sized a bit and sold them to a friend about a year or two ago. I now run a pair of JM Lab Micro Utopia’s with a pair of subs, MK 150’s. Power is a pair of Rogue M120’s and Audible Illusions M3A. Lots of other stuff but my point is that this system is relatively affordable and sounds marvelous. It also plays much better at low volumes than Maggie’s do. However it does not have the same life size imaging, not that it is not presently very good. With a 13 and 9 year old I, too, do a lot of headphone listening. I’m particularly smitten by Hifiman and my 560’s run into a Benchmark HDR. We are really fortunate to be living in the times we do. 20 years ago personal listening came no where close to where it is at today. Enjoy and love those kids! |
