Tireguy,
I met you sometime back in around 2000. You were taking care of your father and running the business. My wife had started her second career and was going to Albany School of Pharmacy. You stopped by my place and listened to a few of my recordings on my modded out Maggie’s 2b’s. I think that got you interested in them and brought you on your Maggie journey.
I hope all all is well and enjoy your new journey. Children certainly bring a new meaning to life and help with prioritizing the important things in life.
BTW, there are some amazing things you can do with an older pair of 3A’s, which can be had cheap. They were the last pair of Maggie’s I owned, which I totally Hot Rodded. If you are able to get the space again to properly run a pair it is an affordable way to get the great Maggie sound. However, I too down sized a bit and sold them to a friend about a year or two ago. I now run a pair of JM Lab Micro Utopia’s with a pair of subs, MK 150’s. Power is a pair of Rogue M120’s and Audible Illusions M3A. Lots of other stuff but my point is that this system is relatively affordable and sounds marvelous. It also plays much better at low volumes than Maggie’s do. However it does not have the same life size imaging, not that it is not presently very good.
With a 13 and 9 year old I, too, do a lot of headphone listening. I’m particularly smitten by Hifiman and my 560’s run into a Benchmark HDR. We are really fortunate to be living in the times we do. 20 years ago personal listening came no where close to where it is at today.
Enjoy and love those kids!
