I would say that it is a bad idea as it would significantly change the load on the belt. Is there much resistance when you do it. It likely will wear the belt faster and possibly load the motor beyond what it was designed for.
Am I damaging my turntable?
An old habit of mine from owning a SL-1200 for many years (and still use as my office turntable) is pausing the platter with my hand while I flip the LP, then letting go to start rotating again.
I know this won't damage the SL-1200 but is this a no-no on my belt driven Rega RP6?
