The poster child for this is a Forsell ir turntable over on AA selling for $5,500 for over five years. I am not kidding. The item has been up for sale and off again at the same price for FIVE YEARS. One would think somebody would figure out there is a problem. Maybe someone promised on the death bed that would be the price.. Really hilarious funny if it was not so stupid. What is even sillier is the note that the "item will be in storage until Dec 2016" he is not even bothering to update the ad..
I have to say constant watching pays off. The second item I bought within the first ten minutes of it being posted. Perfect item, LOW PRICE. IMO the reason you do not see the hot items is they are sold as soon as they get listed. Another item was posted,.. If I would have hit BUY, immediately it would have been mine, noo... In the five minutes I was waffling, IT SOLD. And as soon as sold, they immediately vanish. Anything over a day old is already old hat and most likely overpriced. Feel free to rant....
The problem is folks who are needing a price. Those who expect to sell at or over the used price they paid (to fuel their other purchases) and dealers. folks who are all but dealers in name. THOSE are the folks who have to worry about 'overhead'.. not the casual seller.
As a casual audiophile hobby seller I have never worried about it. All I am concerned is if the buyer will be happy with my stuff.
The attempt to say ten year old ten percent? Not ever going to be a reality for anything in demand. The actual FAIR MARKET is ’what is a buyer willing to pay". With the realization a seller usually wants as much as possible. In a way inna IS correct in that is enough sellers stay at high prices, it will become the new normal. However, I believe there are enough private sellers wanting to sell quickly, that the high price strategy bet may fail, and all those folks holding too much stock finally give up or go broke.
The only things I bought here were at 30% of retail, and 27% of (the 1987)retail price! I had looked and and wanted an item (a LOT) at 55% retail, and just told myself NO it is 25 years old, just repaired, and I DO NOT NEED IT.
