Hafler Array tip...LSR 305 content

anybody slumming with the lowly JBL LSR305, like me?
I did something that has interested me for awhile and added a third speaker for a Hafler array. I want to upgrade the JBL's, but where I am currently makes this an expensive proposition... I just happened to have a Yamaha DXR10 powered speaker that is actually quite excellent sounding.

I took the headphone output of my PreSonus DAC into the mono input on the Yammy and have been experimenting with placement. The Hafler is supposed to be placed in the center and adds soundstage. Right now I have it in the center position relative to the 305's but angled back and into the near wall.. and it sounds pretty cool. The DXR is a more dynamic, lively monitor (which also costs about 3 times what a pair of 305's sell for) that adds thump, transients and alot of texture. Robert Plant sounds like he is in the room with moi....

The DXR does double duty as my bass rig...

this may mess up the stereo field but i think it sounds cool and is a marked improvement...

now I want a better standalone DAC... Topping, anyone?

intersting thing i just noticed..

i must have listened to Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin hundreds of times. Listening now to Moby Dick on How the West Was Won with the Hafler array i just picked up Bonzo's drum tunings... as he alternates between toms i can make out the pitches and actually hum these tones. .. previously on my no-fi systems these drum parts just sound like pitched thuds with no real tonal center.

...and it might be that Jimmy added some low info information to the final mixes for this ala Bonzo's Montreaux.. but it does not sound so hokey if that's what he did...
