Infinity RS-II vs. Klipsch RP-5

Side note - if I were to sell these, does anyone have an estimate on their value?

They are in excellent condition and had the woofers professionally replaced a few years ago...just a ballpark price, bc I have no clue what they are worth...

Well, the original RSII speakers had 3 small cone midrange, and two large woofers in each panel. They were only around $1,500 new, the pair.
When the same design was used for the RSIIa, the tree cones mids were replaced with EMIMS, the rectangular 'reference' from the famed RS and RS1.
The Infinity RSIIa were $3,000 retail, and I owned a pair for 17 years.

I have seen some folks trying to sell RSII as if they were RSIIa.. and the ad was pulled after complaints.
So SEE what you have. EMIMS? $$$ (rectangular plate midrange with shiny slits for midrange?) or three common round poly cone midrange speakers.cheap cheap cheap.

The RSII are just ordinary speakers, perhaps worth $400 the pair.
The Emim RSIIa are worth twice that, $800.
And I had my RSIIa in a tiny 11' by 10' room. LOL.
EMIM units are still worth up to $200 each used. Just for one Emim.

So, the exact model of these speakers is "Infinity RS II A & B", does that mean I have the RSIIa you mentioned?

The Infinity RSIIb had slightly better EMIM magnets, and better woofers.
The list price was only slightly higher than the RSIIa
The 'b' IS a slightly better speaker than the 'a' version.

The one with midrange cones instead of EMIMs was very inferior.
As I wrote, the main feature is the rectangular EMIM drivers on the upper panel,
Three of them in a vertical array for RSIIa and RSIIb
(with two EMITs next to the, and one EMIT on the rear)

if you have three 3" round poly (clear plastic) cone midrange, then you do NOT have the 'a' or 'b'

OPS, if you fool around with the wiring to the EMIMS, be very careful to not stress the pins the wires connect to on the EMIMS, they will break off from vibration really easily, So best just do not mess with them if they are working well.
And replacement 'inner' parts were recently available, but they can disappear fast. So assume if you damage an EMIM, you are SOL.

The pictures of the 'b' for the RSIb ($12,000) had dark 'graphite' cones on the woofers.
The 'a' had clear poly cones on the woofers.
I do not know for certain they also did the graphite woofer cones for the RSIIb.
But I 'think' they did.
A lot fewer 'b's were sold than 'a' in the Infinity RSII sets.
The visible look of the woofer cone is the only thing I know of which one could tell by looking.

I actually do not know for certain they also changed the woofers for the RSIIb as the RSIIb price did not go up a lot, as the RSIb did.
The RSIb jumped from $7,000(a)to like $12,000.(b)
The RSI speakers were with the separate 4 woofer column sets. and 9 EMIMs in columns.
So they were a lot more expensive than the RSII

The EMIM change was very minor. Slightly stronger magnets only. No crossover of cabinet changes. Nor any change in the EQ box.

I should have mentioned earlier - even though I haven't seen the speakers in person yet to apply all the information you provided, I do know when the guy bought these in the early 80's they retailed for $2,000 a pair.

With that price in mind, which model would you speculate them to be? If you think you may know, what do you think they would be worth in today's market? (just a ball park idea)

I just re-read your original answer with price estimates. Considering you said the RSII went for $1,500 and this guy got them on sale from $2000 down to a $1000 for the pair, I think that's the answer - RSII

To expand on my question about their value today - he also had the subs professionally replaced in the last year. Do you have any thoughts on their value IF they were replaced with original equipment versus cones from some other company?

The change in woofers does not change the value of the speaker, used. In fact IMO they are worth less due to the most likely negative change in the sound balance.
It is hard to find replacement drivers with the same characteristics of the originals.
Why don't you just ASK the seller if the midrange are three 3" cones?
Then you would know they are the RSII, and not worth much.
Like I wrote, the RSII are really not great speakers, they look big, but have little resale value $400 tops is all they are worth. And even less with replacement woofers.
