Polite Rules for discussing Audio related things

The polite rules for discussing audio:
Folks post three types of messages:
Questions ,about audio function, method, what to buy..
Answers to other folks questions..
And blogging. I bought this, I did this, here is my experience
Allow others to say and describe what they experience and hear.   Allow then to offer reasons without arguing.   If it is a blog, stop telling them what to do! They don't want you arguing, just wanted to say I did this.
Offer POSITIVE responses. If you disagree with them, do so in a polite and friendly way.
Offer alternatives without aggressive language. And above all, stop tit for tat aggression. Turn the other cheek dudes, turn the other cheek.
What do you think would help create a friendly happy place to discuss audio?

I’ve been here like forever. My company is Machina Dynamica, for you newcomers who might not know. Advanced audio concepts.

Yeah, put the inmates in charge of moderating the threads. Nothing can go wrong with that idea.
Some people have difficulty dealing with dissenting ideas, that’s all. No biggie. Alliteration, anyone? Besides, the way it’s set up now anybody can squeal to the moderator if he objects to someone’s post. It doesn’t even have to be the OP. Hel-loo!
Wow, almost all of my stalkers in one place at the same time. Even Cyclops. What are the odds?
uberwaltz
Sorry Geoff there would need to be a LOT more posts here for all of your stalkers to have showed up yet......

>>>>>You got me there.
Please note Lizzie the OP actually has a long history of getting wrapped around the axle, getting her panties in a twist and calling names. I think she took her baseball and went on a self imposed or whatever vacation for a year or two. Gentle readers, isn’t this whole thread hypocritical if not downright silly?
The last two posts can be forgiven. They’re new here and haven’t learned how the system works.
These forums are the most active, have the most topics of interest and are neither over moderated or undermoderated. Be careful what you wish for. Many other sites that used to be active are moribund. Revel in your time.

Elizabeth, I appreciate both your gibberish and ignorant post and your wish to talk to me. Thank you.

As for the English language, do you speak Aramaic or Middle Persian, perhaps ?

>>>>Ban this person!!
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. The reason I know that is because I watched The Usual Suspects.

The only way to effectively moderate a forum thread is to give the editorial keys to the originator of the thread. If things get whacked out of control with nonsensical discourse or off-topic commentary, then the thread originator can step in to remove those posts.

>>>>Sorry, but that is actually a bad idea, the reason being the OP would be able to get rid of dissenting opinions. One person’s sense is another person’s nonsense. Many of these topics have been kicking around for decades and they should not be concluded at the discretion of some Tom, Dick or Harry. The only moderator should be the, uh, moderator.
I agree. Natural selection. Survival of the dullest. 😬 That strategy sounds eerily like frontier justice. Besides, we already have our share of OP baiters. You know, like “What’s up with all the super expensive cables?” Or “What’s the deal with these fuses?”  Hel-loo!
Someone once told Richard Feynman cables make a big difference and Feynman laughed so hard milk squirted out of his nose.

I agree and am actually appreciate non-audio knowledge I gather here.

>>>>>>When do you reckon you’ll be gathering up some grammar knowledge here?
glupson has learned how to be an accomplished 🍑🎩 here. Unfortunately a verbose one.
reggy

@glupson the emojis are for ass and burgers hence he is attempting to insult you as having aspergers syndrome when you clearly don’t. Usually people like him that devote to insults are reminiscent to a bully in middle school. Except the worst thing is he isn’t a middle-schooler, he sadly is a grown man with no life except on the internet doing what he does best, trolling, (you can google him). Truly pathetic @geoffkait . Everyone should just ignore him and move on to real-world audio discussions for what a forum like this should be about.

Best thing for him is to fade away from these forums as it really interrupts the quality of discussion and engagement of learning for others.

>>>>reggy must be a boy genius for figuring out the peach hamburger emoji. Glupson, eat your heart ❤️ out.

Two things:

1.When we talk about him, even if we don't talk to him, he likes it. I'm guilty again.

2.I would not equate him with a real bully. He just isn't effective in that role. Which is doubly sad because I think that is what he wants most to be.

>>>>>One thing:

1. Somebody musta flunked Psychology 101,
glupson
Are those pictures of hamburgers?

>>>Technically they’re cheeseburgers. Which also works.
We have a match! Gloops and Moops. Bingo!

We sing our early morning singing song
Gliddy glup gloopy nibby nabby nooby la la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba nooby abba nabba le le lo lo
Tooby ooby walla nooby abba nabba

What is actually needed is some sort of basic audio thread, you know for non audiophiles and newbies, clean slates, that sort of thing. One gets rarher tired of the mundane, what about this? what about that? routine. Yes, I realize this isn’t supposed to be the faculty at Harvard. But does it have to be so much like Revenge of the Nerds? But Whack a mole is OK by me.
glupson
People with no answers do get tired of clear and, often, simple questions.

>>>>Yes, I know, Pumpkin. The What about this? What about that? routine. You perfected it. Daddy, why is the sky blue? 👶
Multiple choice, what’s driving Miss Lizzie bonkers? Hmmmm, something for the shelf....

1. Large Acoustic resonator, the one the size of a grapefruit
2. Ultra Signature Clever Lil Clock
3. Mind Lamp from Psyleron
4. Quantum Temple Bell
5. Autographed photo of Keith Richards
6. 1/32 scale Harley Davidson Sportster
7. Zen and the Art of Debunkery
8. None of the above

Nice try, Lizzie. Actually the reason the sky is blue has nothing to do with water vapor. Blue light is scattered in all directions when sunlight strikes the tiny molecules of air, mostly oxygen and nitrogen, in the Earth’s atmosphere. That’s called Rayleigh scattering. Blue is scattered more than other colors because it’s wavelength is shorter. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.

I stated this on the first page, has it happened?

“but some people do not want to contribute to the discussion therefore it does not matter that the forum members have a thick skin. Some are here to sell their gear (think dealers) some are here to make the converstation about THEM (think geoff). In those two examples, the original subject goes off the rails because of ego drive idiots with thier own agenda.
Thread hijackers who kill the conversation.”

Yes the moderator should take out the stuff that feeds trolls like Geoff...

>>>>Yeah, yeah, you already said all that, 2cyclops. You do realize repetition is a symptom of Asperger’s, don’t you? Go find someone else to stalk. Besides, you haven’t contributed anything whatsoever to this thread other than belly aching.
Apparently, all I have to do is whisper the word stalker and glupson shows up almost immediately. It’s uncanny. Also kind of creepy. 😛
n80
Yes, geoff calling someone else a stalker is rather rich. But, it massages his ego to think that he has one.

et tu, brute? What’s this, a stalker convention?
And yet I’m probably the only one on this thread who ever heard Dahlquist DQ-10s. Ironic, no? This has become the whining newbies vs the Audio Insider.

Lizzie, my favorite knucklehead, I was wondering why my room is painted this sort of institutional green color. I guess that’s supposed to calm me down. Roses are red, violets are blue, I’m a schizophrenic and so am I.
As fate would have it, the recording I heard on the Dahlquists was Ry Cooder’s Bop Til you Drop 🕺 which makes it around 1979 since that particular record was one of the very first all digital recordings and predated CDs, which came later. Funky!

Sejidoren--If you bought them and you like them, that’s all that matters.

Gosh, that’s mighty decent of ya, stranger.
Sorry, you messed up my quote, which is,

Geoff,
That's nice but remember, I'd have absolutely no reason to "Troll' your old posts. The line I used is an offshoot of one that I originated in Junior High circa 1965.

It looks like you're over 50 years late.

Perhaps, considering the nature of trolling and not trolling in this thread, when I wrote the occasional article for AudioExpress and before that Glass Audio, the old Ed Dell publications, it was considered good form to welcome newcomers. They're the future of the hobby after all.

Here we get quotes like:

This has become the whining newbies vs the Audio Insider.

There's a current thread about how things are not selling on this website, partly due to the graying and shrinking membership, and partly due to the snooty attitude of some members both in postings and listings.

There's a connection between how we view newcomers and how they react to us. Speaking as a newcomer, people notice that sort of thing.

Do we want to encourage the newcomers or are we altogether too good for that?

>>>>You’ll pardon me for saying so but you’re reading way too much into this. Lighten up!

glupson
sejodiren,

This is about the moment you'd better stop responding. Otherwise, you get sucked into purposeless arguments and end up wondering what is wrong with all of us. Maybe try a different thread or take a walk outside? I promise you, you will lose nothing.

At 67, I guess I’m an official member of the Old-Timers Audio Club.

Since most of us don’t want this site to be monitored to the point of having every disagreement, personal opinion or questionable remark censored, we should all try being a little bit like adults....Well, except for Geoff, maybe...Jim

>>>>>Gosh, I can’t wait until I’m an old timer, too...Geoff

😬
I just came back from a short ride on my TREK mountain bike. SMOOTH. Geez, I am not looking forward to a three wheeler. Too old to rock and roll, too young to die.
For your next assignment, check out quantum dots, I.e., artificial atoms - a bunch of electrons orbiting around an empty space in the middle instead of a nucleus. Whoa! 😳
Wow! I’ve been working with quantum dots since 2005 when I got involved with the original Intelligent Chip imported by Golden Sound. I design and produce the Super Intelligent Chip. I also wrote the definitive explanation for how the Intelligent Chip works.

http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina64.htm
Gosh, I was wondering why sales have been down recently. Thanks for the heads up.
The first commercial use of quantum dots was for audio, for treating CDs. That was almost 15 years ago. That’s way before quantum dot Christmas tree lights or whatever. Jingle bells, jingle bells...
The Engineers in Prometheus and Alien Covenant used a flute to activate the alien spacecraft. Maybe that’s how earthlings inherited the taste for music. Hmmmmm....
