Rega Planar 3 Help/Advice

The original Planar 3 had a rubber suspended motor.
The motor DOES tilt inward when it isconnected to the belt/platter.
Original Planar 3 had VERY little torque, and usually needed a push on the platter to get started!!!
(I HAVE an original Planar 3 I do not use)
So if giving the platter a little push starts it up, your Rega Planar 3 is perfectly normal!
A new belt cannot hurt. And make certain the bearing has a drop or two of quality Automotive motor oil, any 5W-30 to 0W-40 will do
Clean out the bearing well and the bearing with a q-tip then put some oil on the bearing and into the bearing well with another. VERY LITTLE! the bearing will push out most of it and make a mess if you use too much.
While you had the small bearing platter off clean the edge of the wheel the O ring goes on with soap and water. So the wheel is a grippy as it can be. Also clean off the motor pulley where to Oring goes with some alcohol. wash off the O ring with soap and water.
Between the cleaning, and oiling, and a gentle push to start up the platter.. your TT sould work well for many years.

Great advice Elizabeth but with one exception. Do not use motor oil. Rega specs call for 80/90 weight hypoid oil. That is the heavy oil that would be used in a cars differential or older manual transmissions. They specify to use only one or two drops of oil.Motor oil works well in probably 95% of turntables but not Rega.

Castrol Hypoy C oil is available at amazon. The smallest size is a quart.That would last you at least 100 years or so. But Amazon has it for $6.00 or so. Your other option would be to go to your car mechanic and see if he would let you have a couple ounces or so.

Found it at O'Reilly Auto Parts. It seems I now have a lifetime supply, LOL!
