Solid State vs. Tubes - What if Transistors came first?

What do you guys think?

If transistors came first, and then decades later tubes were invented, would we have any tube amps we would call high end?

Wouldn’t they all fail to reach the height of performance and transparency set by transistor amps?

Best,

E

P.S. I love Conrad Johnson. I'm just wondering how  much of our arguments have to do with timing.

Teletubbies are the true rulers of the Universe. If you never could quite figure out why everything is so chaotic, now you know.
More interesting: What if the Carthaginians beat the Romans...What would the World be like today???
What if the dinosaurs were never killed off?
What if Neanderthals won, and Homo sapiens lost?
What if Kennedy had left the top on (the car) in Dallas?
What if the FBI agent who said a guy was suspicious getting pilot training (one of the 9/11 terrorist pilots) had been listened to. instead of told to forget it.
What if Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov had NOT been on board the Russian submarine about to launch nuclear torpedoes at the US fleet during the Cuban Missile Crisis?
I am certain plenty of folks though the early automobile was a fad, and that the horse and buggy were here to stay. The 'fad' of automobiles would soon vanish. As for the musings and longing for youth, I think some of the love for tubes is based on cherished memories. But I also can say tubes may have some audible differences that still may matter.
I also own only cars with manual transmissions. I want to DRIVE my car, not be on a moving sofa I aim in some general direction. LOL
Better free trade than some fool deciding for you, (including for YOU Dave) Just think if Geoff somehow became the sole arbiter of what you (Dave) are allowed to buy in the area of sound reproduction.   LOL.
With restrictions it could easily happen. I suggest all audiophiles are pretty much wide awake and buy what meets their needs. NO Nanny State needed to 'protect' any of us.
One huge problem for tubes if they were developed later would be the LACK of mountains of NOS tubes we do have now. Plus all the old machines still churning out tubes in Russia. If tubes came later, there would be no NOS at all. Only a few makers of new tubes, and a far more limited variety of tubes available. And tubes would be many times more expensive. Since no NOS (by the millions) to keep the prices low(er) NOS tubes are like the icebergs..Think of the millions stashed away in collectors hands...(I am NOT a tube maven, and I still have 50 or so just sitting around)
