I'm considering purchasing some material to mask some mechanical noise from a component in my rack.
I was considering 3/8" ultra-soft polyurethane (sorbothane) sheet, or perhaps some flexible polyimide, or flexible polyurethane (all sold at McMaster.com).
Other ideas?
Heat is not an issue. I only require about a 12"x12" piece.
Tvad, If you are so inclined, after you try this stuff in the component cabinets could you comment on heat retenton which would normally be minimized by the component case acting as a heat sink? I'm curious -
Lining my cases with the absorption wads is low on my list of priorities. However, my intention was to mount smaller strips or squares of the material to act as vibration deadening rather than noise control. Therefore, I'd be using less of the product. I hadn't considered heat retention.
