Bacardi and Shellie, the Tesla Precision References are very fast and in my experience best used between the linestage and the amp. I thought the Accelerators were better elsewhere and, of course, the Apex.
Dave_b, sorry but I don't believe you and will not give them a try. Perhaps my having done such before with no benefit is my best reason. |
Bacardi, I think you would prefer what you now have, but I am not certain.
Ozzy, what is the Quattro?
Ptm, yes it makes a difference. I have all of my MPCs plugged into a QLS-9 which is plugged into the PowerCell. This sounds much better than when they were just plugged into another power strip.
There will soon be Galileo MPCs. |
I did not even know of the Quattro until today. I have heard the Enigma and of the prospects for an Enigma II. |
Ozzy, I wonder why Ted has never said anything about the Quattro and why it has no prominence on their webpage. It certainly is a tangle of wires behind my system.
Bacardi, I tried several of the power cords between the PowerCell and my QLS 9, including the Precision AC. I preferred the tunneled simple power cord, but I must say its short length was much less cluttered. |
Well, I got my Exemplar Music Server up and running tonight. My Mac remote desktop had a hard drive failure. This meant that I had to move one of my two SR Hologram Ds to it. I tried the T2, but it did cut it. Curiously the T2 sounds best on my H-Cat P 12. I guess I have to get another Hologram D or stop playing the sacd player. I should also say that the Hologram D did not like being moved and took two hours to get where it was late tonight. Tomorrow it is be back to its best performance. |
I saw them but had no opportunity to hear them versus the big ARTs. The Galileo speaker wires and ics were their main focus. |
The Basiks at least come with screws holding them to their bases. |
Dave_b, yes, if you ignore the obvious cable charging, the clear effectiveness of the ARTs in demonstration, and many people's positive experiences with the PowerCell. Also you obviously ignored the extensive discussion on the website of the three different geometries used in the interconnects, which have proprietary information. |
I needed adapters also. I doubt that it makes any difference, but how would one know? |
I think that Dlcockrum's observations strongly suggest the strong points of Synergistic Research designs. They do make a difference. But, of course, without the sound advice of SR we are all faced with trial and error in choosing which cables are best for us. Every new devise reopens the issue. I love these cables but nevertheless I am frequently faced with issues of which is best. I just got a Oppo 83 universal player modified by Exemplar. It loves the Apex cables but the issue is still out about the Hologram D. This is all part of the quest. |
|
Adwiegert, I find this is true of SR cables as well. Forget them for several hours after you moved them. |
Ted, I am very happy to hear about the fuses. Are you starting with top quality fuses before using the Tesla coil? |
Joeyboynj, I agree that buying a single lead Galileo MPC makes little sense, but in my single experiment I found mixing ics and pcs on a twin lead MPC greatly harmed the sound. I would, of course, agree that experimenting is needed. I should say, however, that SR warned me about a ic and pc mix after I found it. |
Scottmac62, you will immediately know it is better. After a day or so, you will be shocked. After about two weeks, you will just shake your head about now a simple charger of the cable could make such a difference. Then you will wonder whether further improvements could be had! Isn't life at the fringe fun? |
Adwiegert, initially I did not hear any improvement in using a T2 rather than the short little, tunneled cord that comes with QLSs, but more recently I tried again and it is much better. I will not go any more expensive on such a cord. |
I am also going and have heard that SR will have the trickle down Galileo tips for use with Apex and other speaker wires and ics. I suspect other things as well. |
Shellie, the SR room was one of the four best sounding rooms at CES or THE Show, quite in contrast to the RMAF. They were using YG speakers and Esoteric electronics unlike at the RMAF but otherwise largely their same components and wires. They did have their new MIGs or basically the orbs like the ARTs under components and did quick a/b comparisons with quite obvious benefit. They also showed new trickle-down technology Galileo couplers for the ends of speaker wires and interconnects but did not demonstrate them as only the full-blown Galileos were used.
If the show reports fail to mention this room, it would suggest they either did not visit or cannot hear. |
Adwiegert, as I said they are like the cups in the ARTs system. You can use them opening up or round bottom up. I took pictures of the room but not the MIGs. |
Adwiegert, SR said they would be on their webpage shortly. I did not really take any pictures of them, but I noted that the 4" x 6" x1" box for the speaker cables did have very long and sharp spikes on them. They were not demonstrated any time while I was there. |
I should note that many fear patents only alert others as to an improvement and are easily worked around. I'm sure that patent attorneys would say that is because their services have not been used, adding of course great additional expense. I know this from my grandfather's, father's, and brother's experiences. |
|
Ozzy and Shellie, if they are going to sell the trickle-down boxes, they need to get them on their web page. When the ARTs came out they quickly added them. The MIGs demand being on a webpage also.
I had thought that Ted's experimenting with bowls like on the ARTs was a waste of time considering what I have experienced with the StillPoints, but the demonstration was striking. More so than turning the Galileos on and off.
Their room with the YGs and Esoteric electronics totally eclipsed the Avid and Luxman room at the RMAF. I could hardly stand to be in that room. This was one of the top four rooms at CES or THE Show and far superior to YG's own room. |
The sole exception I would make to the above is to say that my linestage did not like the Hologram A. The simple T2 was better. |
Adwiegert, my QLS 9 is just laying on the floor. It is such a snakes nest back there that I never even thought of vibrations having and effect. But prior experiences strongly says it will. There is also the problem of the SR cables being on the floor rather than supported on isolators. I am going to see whether I can do something about this today. |
Adwiegert, well the answer is isolating the QLS was a big improvement. I only had a Walker Audio isolation platform for use under his velocitor as shown on his webpage. I basically had to lean over my system holding on to the back wall to get it into place and then to raise the QLS-9 into position. The sound stage got noticeably more open and transient attacks improved. |
Guys, I need to mention the benefits of isolating QLSs from vibrations. Somehow I had ignored this in my use of SR cables. I had heard the benefits of isolating the Apex speaker wires, briefly tried the PowerCell 10SE on StillPoints component stand, and even isolated the vast majority of my SR power cords on Rightway Suspenders, but I never really gave much thought to the QLS, other than to wish I did not have the snakes nest behind my system. Then when Adwiegert inquired about the QLS, I finally thought about it.
I now have my QLS-9 isolated on a Walker butcher block base and have had it there for over a week. I also further assured that the power cords are all off the floor on isolation bases. This weekend with extended listening, I am in awe of the benefits of this. I, of course, have no experience with other vibration devices on the QLS, but I urge you all to try some. It is not subtle! The soundstage is strikingly wide and precise and the dynamics are frightening. On the last Chinese drum cut on the Burmester CD III, I clipped my amp. I have never heard that happen before. |
Ozzy, I tried the Precision Ref on my amp versus the Hologram A and much preferred it, but Ted D says he cannot predict which will work best with amps. He was, however, shocked that I preferred the T2 to the Hologram A on my line stage. I suspect that these cables are very system dependent. |
I heard a demonstration of the Migs at CES on their Esoteric transport on a StillPoints rack of all things. The Migs made a substantial difference with one up and two down, if I recall correctly. That anything has much of an impact on the StillPoints rack amazes me. |
Bacardi, I have heard of the Sistrum stands, but none of the others. The Migs are largely like the cups in the ARTs. They would be little noticed. |
Ozzy, I know what you are saying. It looks like a snake's nest behind my system. But I do suspect you are losing a good deal. I never heard a Quattro, but the Galileo MPCs are exceed the originals.
I would not be surprised were there a new Quattro or Enigma soon.
Bacardi, are you selling your Quattro? |
Joeyboynj, I have all of my SR power cords plugged into the PowerCell leaving room only for the charger of the PC cord and PC and for the T2 that leads to my QLS-9, all of whose outlets are occupied by MPCs. As I have said behind my rack is a rats nest. What neatness I had was lost when I changed to the StillPoints rack. I ardently hope for a new Enigma in the near future.
I hasten to tell everyone that the PowerCell itself greatly improves with isolation feet beneath it. Try Migs there or other feet, such as StillPoints, and you will not go back. |
|
They claim they will shortly. |
Airport, I used a Galileo MPC on my D3 and a power cord, and thought something was seriously wrong with my system. When I put the D3 on its own everything was dramatically improved. Perhaps the D3 is a different animal, but when I asked Ted about this, he told me that I should not mix signal and power cables on the same MPC. |
I don't think there is any potential for a fire hazard. |
My PowerCell is at room temperature with every outlet in use including one to a QLS9 and all of its outlets are taken.
If you have any heat, something is seriously wrong. |
Jazz 59, not the T3, but the Hologram D versus the T2 was a jawdroping experience. With the Hologram D the sound is more encompassing, dynamic, deeper, quieter. I did this on a music server, several cdps and several sacd players, and on several dacs. |
If I recall correctly, at CES they used two in the front and one in back and the only one had the round end up. What really amazed me was that the components were already on a StillPoints rack and still the Migs made a big difference. |
Sherod, their revised webpage was supposed to be up and running by now, but is not.
The MIGs look just like the cups in the ARTs and of the same iron, but I was told they are not identical to the ART cups.
They are definitely effective although I cannot imagine why. The demonstrations at CES were quite convincing. They should behave just like cones, I would think. Perhaps being hollow matters and have a higher resonant frequency matters. |
Guys, as I said, at CES the demonstration was with the Migs on a StillPoint rack and still gave a dramatic improvement. I did not think they would have such a great impact, but they did.
It is an interesting question as to whether they perform better on some shelves than others. If they negate the impact of the shelves, would that not be great? |
I expected that the new Synergistic Research webpage would merely add the new products. Instead it is totally different and even introduces new products, or at least new to me, such as the Active Wall Plate, the Galileo BASIKs, and the Master File Project. Wow!
Joeyboynj, what most impressed me was that Ted chose to use the StillPoints rack for his demonstration at CES. I think this is the best rack I have ever heard. Nevertheless, the MIGs made a dramatic improvement. I just got my 3 sets of MIGs in this morning. Most of my equipment is on a StillPoints rack. I have now installed two sets of the MIGs doing so one set at a time. I each case they ultimately greatly improved the linestage and Minerva dac under which they had been placed. I say ultimately as any disturbance of the SR cables takes time to settle down.
But my Powercell was not on the StillPoints rack. It was on my old Mana Stands with the original Aurio original feet underneath. When I replaced the Aurios with the MIGS, as many say, the room lit up! This may be some evidence that the MIGs make the rack less important or maybe not important. I suspect that MIGs under a Powercell may have the greatest impact on your sound. |
One additional comment on the MIGs. Tonight they were much, much better than five hours earlier. They sound stage was more plausible and the bass was more profound. Nothing else had been changed. Possibly they reveal the SR cables settling back once they have been disturbed. Or the MIGs break in???
Nobody will know what I'm talking about, but my H-Cat linestage has a control that is much like focusing a camera. I had to very substantially change its setting tonight from earlier today.
As totally implausible as the MIGs are, they certainly have a dramatic impact! |
|
Adwiegert. initially I tried everything in the pin-point position, but I moved the line stage back to ambient. The MIGs are changing so much that I think I am going to have to go back. If it is the cables protesting changes this may take a while.
I'm sad to tell you that you have something else you are going to have to buy from SR, the Galileo Universal Cable Cells for your speaker wires. I just got mine into the system about an hour ago. I don't know what they are going to be like tonight, but what they do is many magnitudes more than the MIGs already. The clarity, timbre of instruments, bass, namely all the attributes of the PowerCell further added to your sound. I am worn out tonight, but really thought of staying up listening so I could hear the improvement with each minute. It really wasn't easy putting these things on the Apex speaker wires. The Cells are light and the Apex stiff. |
Scottmac62, the Galileo Universal Speaker Cell cost $2500 and Interconnect Cells, $1500, and the MIGs, $150.
I am trying to grasp exactly why they are so dramatically different. There is little question that the two ways they can be used differ. One with two cups round side up called ambient soundstage and the other with two down called pin point sound stage. Nothing is said about all down or all up. I have yet to decide which I prefer or which mix I prefer.
Last night with the linestage in ambient and the PowerCell and Minerva in pin-point, on a live recording of Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis, I had a greater sense of the audience and the instruments in the band were very precisely located with very natural timbre. The drum solos were very realistic and the bass very extended. Today may be different. I expect it will be better.
I really don't understand the MIGs. We know these metal bowls resonance in the case of the ARTS. SR's demonstration of them merely turns them over on a table round bottom up. With the MIGs can they resonate with their open side either against the shelf or the component?
No matter, however, they do change the sound and dramatically. I guess all of us will have to judge for ourselves whether we like what we hear.
The Cells will have to await further listening also. Mine only had an hour on them when I last listened.
There is nothing subtle about either the MIGs or the Cells. You will immediately know something is different. |
Splaskiin, the leads are about 2 feet long and the MPC charges both set of speaker wires. The kit comes with long extenders, so a centrally located MPC could charge speakers that are 15 feet apart.
Go to the new SR website. It has a great deal of information and many pictures. |
Adwiegert, the Basiks are for demonstration with the Galileo Universal Speaker Cells. You will probably get them when you are demonstrating the Cells. |
The Galileo Universal Speaker Cells are revelatory. I doubt if anyone, on hearing them, will ever remove them. But the MIGs are driving me crazy. The two positionings–two up and one down or two down and one up, how long they take to settle in or break in, and where you position them yields hours and hours of experimentation.
Pin-Point positioning ( two down) on digital sources, yields sounds in the recording that you otherwise never hear-fingerings, coughs, noises in the background, such as telephones ringing, and even comments among the performers. It is realistic as well as disconcerting. It is also very upfront sound.
Ambient (two up) is more spacious and layback. You really need to mix them, but in what location to use each remains unknown. An every time you move the MIGs you need to wait for them to settle in. The MIGs are very powerful and promise massive improvements in your sound, but don't expect an easy introduction into your system. You have hours of experimentation ahead of you. I figure that I am about half way there.
There is a real question in my mind also as to whether the stand under the MIGs matters. My PowerCell sits on a double Mana stand (two stands one on top the other) while every other device sits on a StillPoint rack. Changes under the PowerCell are equally as great as under the other equipment. |
Joeyboynj, I had it at ambient until last night. I changed it right at the end but have yet to listen today. |
I once had Rollerblocks, Moonguy, but it was years ago. As I said at CES SR was using and here I am using the MIGs on a StillPoint rack which is an outstanding rack. |
Suteetat, the Galileo Universal Speaker Cells come with one MPC double lead along with 5' extenders to hook them to the Cells at your speakers. I don't think you would want to do what you are thinking to do as the Cells go at the speakers and the wire charger attaching point is at the amp. I guess if you were to have monoblocks this would make sense.
I would imagine that there is some ultimate weight limit, but they should be good for heavy weight amps. I don't think they would be good with speaker or that SR intends them for this application. |
Yes, the MIGs slide too easily. Do with care. |
Scotttmac, no, I still have to have the PowerCell at the back of the shelf. This is an old Mana glass shelf rack. I really have not had any difficulty with the MIGs under it, except that the power cords pulled the PowerCell around slightly as the pcs all go to the left of the PowerCell. I still have not decided whether I prefer ambient or pin-point placement of the MIGs under the PowerCell.
Suteetat, with the probably 5' extension that comes with the Universal Cells and the 5' lead out of the MPC, you Universal Speaker Cells can be 10' from the MPC. My speakers are 10' apart, and I have no problem.
The Emitter is a great piece. All that I can really say is that given my experience, I would strongly suggest trying the MIGs in all locations. I must have 15 different isolation feet around here and have a similar experience as you. Don't jump too quickly when you hear the MIGs. They are very dramatic and do take some time to break in. I don't exactly understand why metal cups would break in, but they do. |
