Tekton Double Impacts
@sbayne I felt the other speaker cables I had at my disposal did not gel well with everything in my system. I was experiencing way too much upper midrange and high frequencies with the Electrons installed. My old speakers (Eminent Technology) had a more laidback presentation. When adding the WE cables, I felt like I added a warm tube. It pushed back the soundstage to midhall and eliminated the nasties that were making my ears miserable (I have tinnitus). I am sure other cables like the Cerious Tech would work great as well. I am in the camp that believes cables do influence the sound. Some don’t. No debates :) I wasn’t about to buy more cables to figure out how to make the Electrons work in my room, so I was lucky to have the WE cables available. Yes it came down to a wire. A $60 wire lol Associated Equiptment Amp: Lyndorf TDAI 2170 Source: Simaudio 260d Tranport Digital Cable: High Fidelity Reveal Power Cords : CPT 150 and 300 Power Conditioner: High Fidelity Cable MC6 I also wanted to take the time to thank the great posters here that have helped assist me in making my system sound the way it does presently. You know who you are. -Peace |
Double Impact owners I need your opinion on bass performance. I want to know if your satisfied with bass resolution and texture? Can you pick up bass guitar notes easily or are they on the soft side? Either acoustic bass of electric. Do any of you listen to Jaco, Geddy, Jack Bruce, John Entwhistle, Ron Carter etc? Thanks |
@evolvist My speakers are set using the provided spikes into Herbie Hush Puckies. I agree about the room correction. I seem to have enough bass in general. Was just curious if DI owners have bass with resolution? You need upper to mid bass otherwise its not going to be easy to follow complex passages. Most posters seem to comment on how Dynamic the bass is or isn’t. Another Track : Paul Simon’s "You can call me Al" Genesis "No reply at all" |
I guess it makes sense that the better the speaker, the less correction it needs. And the worse the speaker, the more of a change you’ll notice. Not sure I agree with that. I think it depends on the design of the speaker. I had Dipoles and they actually were not designed to need a lot of room correction. My Electrons required much more room correction. Was the dipole speaker better than the Tekton? Not to me. |
Got a question for Tekton Speaker Owners with Grills. I just received my grills for my Electrons. The grills are well built. However, they don’t seem like they fit the shape of the speaker cabinet. The corners of the grills are not flush with the corners of the speaker cabinet. The Speakers Cabinets have a rounded corner yet the Grills have a sharp corner, so the grill corners are sticking out a bit. Is this what you all have as well? Thanks |
I much prefer Aurios Bearings under my Tektons compared to the supplied spikes and Herbie Hush Puckies I tried. The spikes accentuated the highs where the bearings actually relaxed the highs back and tighten the bass more. I would try the Gaia bearings if funds allow. @greyhound You need to edit that link it won’t work |
@craigl59 Just to note the Aurios are not made anymore, but they do show up on the used market (that is how I acquired mine). You would need the Aurio Pro or Pro Max. 3 per speaker. Otherwise the Symposium Rollerblocks Jr or HDSE supposedly are just as good. You can contact Symposium direct for a solution that would be cheaper than the GAIA feet. |
@nitrobob Thanks for your honest and interesting write up on the Tektons. I don’t think you rubbed anyone the wrong way at all. You seemed like you tried everything you had at your disposal. For me though I had to make a decent amount of changes in my system to get what I wanted from the Tektons. Some people (grannyring) had to modify the speakers. Some just placed them in the room and magic! Have you thought about trying Model 3a signature Vandersteen speakers? Not the most efficient but they have 10" woofers. When I heard them I thought they had a warm natural character, but the highs had nice amount of detail. Not only that, but they have tweeter and mid controls on them, to fine tune them. There is a fine line with warm and super crisp highs though, so keep that in mind. You can’t really have both...sorta a middle ground. At least that is from my experience. Anyways Vandersteen came to mind, I am sure others might have other examples for you to try. Best of luck and thanks. |
Similar to the Gaia footers, I recently installed 3 Aurio Pros under each of my Electrons and it really opened up the sound. I feel the detail retrieval ,soundstage width/depth and bass articulation was impacted the most. Amazing tweak for someone that doesn’t want to replace drivers, caps or wires. |
I would imagine the Gaia 2’s would work great with the regular DI’s? They support up to 120lbs.. The DI’s weigh only 106 lbs. Now the SE’s maybe are a different story as they weigh 120lbs. For cheaper alternative to the Gaia’s at only $200, a set of 3 Symposium Rollerblock Jr’s. The only issue with those is you don’t want to bump into your speakers, they might slide off the Rollerblocks and fall O.O So if you have kids or curious animals...maybe not a good choice. You want 3 bearing devices so you can create an equal triangle underneath the speakers. Once installed your speakers will basically float. Decoupling speakers is in my opinion something that should not be ignored. The results will be very obvious and very positive IMHO. As Mac mentioned they drain vibrations which would allow the components inside and outside the speaker cabinet to perform at a much higher potential. So in a sense it would improve the crossover. If your a soundstage and imaging fan, then decoupling devices are a must IMHO. I have them pretty much throughout my system. |
@corelli Seems like with the devices your using might just be changing the resonant signature of your cabinet with the rubber devices. The best vibration draining systems I have have used are ball bearing isolation devices under my components i.e. Symposium Roller Blocks, Aurios, isoacoustics Gaia’s etc. If your interested in DIY route. You might want to search for "DIY Roller Blocks" or "Barry Diament hip joints" |
@mac48025 You should try the Roller Block Jr’s with and without the tops (carbine balls touching the component). I heard that in some cases they sound better without the tops. Supposedly you get more jiggle action. Which would equate to less dampening without the tops. If you put under wood then I would stick with the tops on or get something like a marble tile to put between the tungsten ball and the wood. The other things is, you might be able to expand on your investment if you use 1 side of the RBjr’s. If so, you can buy 3 additional tungsten carbine balls and use it on another component. https://img.usaudiomart.com/uploads/large/1008207-symposium-rollerblock-jr-hdse.jpg |
@thompsontechs I have the WE cables Grannyring is referring to. Its hooked to the 2170 and the Tekton Electrons. I will tell you that it is the warmest, most natural system I have put together. You just need to be patient. Lots of burn in time. Over 200 hours in my experience. If you have the right quality ingredients surrounding the 2170 and the Tektons, it can be a system that will be very engaging to listen to for many hours at a time. |
@treebeard1 Supposedly the change is tied to the SN#. You need to contact Tekton with the SN# and they will tell you. Here’s a video summary on the resistor change https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6IMgA8O8IQ |
@grannyring Well just got off the phone with Eric (who was extremely pissy and rude I might add lol) and he explained that the DI’s are the only one’s that need the change. It is only for people with DI’s in smaller rooms. Apparently people are calling and bugging him about this (oh well too bad). I suggested to him maybe posting this on his blog, but he said, he doesn’t have the time. |
That’s why I posted the video earlier to help with the questions about it in this thread. Eric posted on that youtube channel to have people call with the serial numbers. "Eric Alexander1 week ago Call us directly with your DI serial numbers in hand. " |
Well the incredible reviews and high praise from fellow audiogon members has weakened me so. I just bought a pair of Electrons (mid tower version of DI) Soft White/Grills and Upgraded Parts. I hope they aren't too aggressive in the mids and highs. I will have them about 2 feet from the back wall, playing at lower volumes (60-65db) with a sub. I have a Primaluna Dialogue Premium to power them. Wish me luck! I estimate delivery to be 3-4 weeks. Will report back with impressions. Thanks guys and gals $$$$ :o |
Well I would imagine that the 5 year warranty covers crumbling dust caps? I mean this is kinda pathetic to be honest lol. More power to you if you can just put the grills on your speaker and be ok with it. If a dust cap on my speaker that I just ordered 2 days ago even slightly showed a hint it was dented, the speaker would be going back immediately. |
