Vandersteen VLR Wood ..any love for these?

Getting my VLRs from John Rutan this week.  Going with the current model and will upgrade to carbon tweeter model as budget/desire presents itself.  Will report back with observations once they settle in.

The new signature model will have a carbon tweeter.  I am unaware of the current model will be upgradeable to carbon tweeter.

Just set up and did very preliminary audition.  Great soundstage and articulation, even at low volume levels. Hearing things in familiar recordings unheard previously.  Doing a burn-in for a couple days, then will report back with further observations.  First class service and recommend from John Rutan at Audio Connection.  Highly recommended, very patient and responsive to many queries.

I’m using Hegel H-80 integrated amplifier, puts out 75 watts into 8 ohms.  Plenty of power, in my opinion.

 Unqualified recommendation. Never had a better set of speakers. 

My VLRs keep opening up.  Four inches from side and rear walls.  Just amazing, expansive, honest sound.  Adding a Bryston BDP-pi to replace Airport Express into my Hegel DAC.  Highly recommended!

Vandersteen advises the VLR CT is now available, with a 3 week wait time.  $3075 for a pair.  Awaiting word on finishes and specs.

Has anyone auditioned or purchased the VLR CT yet?  Very anxious to a/b against my standard VLRs.

Where did you find them used?

What type of stands are you using?  Do you need sub reinforcement?

What size are the top plates on the stand?  I have a nice pair of Skylan stands that I would use.  6” wide by 9.5” deep.

I have mine filled with rice, seems very inert.  Are your first impressions of the VLRs still holding?  Currently have a pair of Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus that I will be replacing.

i have a pair of skylan two post stands as well.  What are the dimensions of your top plates on the stand?  Do the VLRs fit nicely?

Hegel H80 integrated amplifier with Kimber Kable PK10 power cable. Kimber 8TC speaker cables. Using Airport Express digital out to the Hegel. Skylan guy can make a new top plate as necessary. Going to market my Silverlines and REL T-Zero sub next week.

Where did you get your VLRs?  I’m shooting for a demo or return pair, at or below $1000.

Vandersteen rep at AXPONA said to expect a forthcoming VLR Signature model with carbon tweeter like the Treo.  May wait for upgrade model to a/b before final purchase decision.  Significant increase in price, however.

No and no.  Going to check with Mr. Vandersteen on release date.  I’ll let you know when he responds.
