Long Distance Voyager .. The Moody Blues.
Polygram label. |
Play Deep ... The Outfield.
A great British band that were largely ignored at home whilst playing too stadiums here in the USA.
Another of my $1 purchases. |
Good to be here Slaw! And thank you.
I am working my way through cleaning and then playing 217 lps I bought for $1 each from my LRS. He had thrown a lot of good stuff into clearance boxes just to reduce inventory.
There are some bad ones of course but so far it is working out to be a great buy. Gave him $200 cash for the lot so a little less than $1 each. |
Yes it is Slaw, a small amount of time and effort can turn a $1 record into a $10 one very easily. I am always up for a bargain or 217 .. Lol. And Private Eyes by TB... Yep got that one!
|
Squeezing Out Sparks ... Graham Parker |
Reubent
I think I will stick to my $1 LRS purchases for now...lol
Mind there is still one album I need buy to complete my Magnum vinyl collection but I am baulking at the $120 cost. |
Slaw
I was turned onto The Teskey Brothers from my streaming thread by Gorsta if I remember right.
It quite surprised me and may have to look for the vinyl. |
Pleasure & Pain ... Dr. Hook
Capitol Records |
Head First ... The Baby's.
|
|
|
One World ... Rare Earth.
Sounds pretty darn good for a $1 bargain bin original 1971 album! |
Violation ... Starz.
Not sure how many remember these guys.
Capitol records, another $1 buy but looks and sounds like it has never been played |
Good for her! My daughter has her own vinyl and digital rig. You can see it under my virtual systems. Simple, cheap but very effective. |
Ted Nugent S/T .
Another bargain bin buy! |
Backless ... Eric Clapton.
Like new $1 purchase. |
The Who by Numbers.
Not their finest for sure and SQ leaves a little to be desired but still it is The Who!
Reubent .... I have my share of spendy albums too although not very many I will admit. I only have Brother In Arms on SACD. |
Reubent.
Btw, your posting of The Alarm took me back decades and I just had to play some this morning via Tidal
Thank you |
@Reubent
My favorite portion of this forum are all the music threads.
There is a general air of camaraderie here that is sadly lacking on some of the other threads where instead it seems to be more who can stab who in the back the deepest and the hardest!
Not all obviously but it sure is not fun most of the time.
Plus there is always such great music to discover and rediscover.
It’s a pleasure to be here.
Btw I have worked in the Cincy area a LOT over the last 20 year’s. We even went for vacation a couple of times when Kings Island was at its height just to ride The Beast and The Son of The Beast. Sad how King’s Island has turned out now. |
Rocket Fuel ... Alvin Lee, Ten Years Later.
|
Nuclear Furniture ... Jefferson Starship.
Grace Slick still one of my fave female singers of all time. What a wild child in her early years!
|
|
Eric Clapton Rainbow Concert. Quite an assembly of musicians on this album.
|
On another note entirely ( sic). Does anybody actually collect and/or play 45rpm singles? I ask as when last at my LRS I spied box upon box of 45,s. When I asked he said nobody buys them and not even worth his time to sort through them. They all came with collections he buys.Seems a shame really.
|
Private Dancer ... Tina Turner.
This is too funny, this disc is bent and warped like a pretzel and yet.... My Denon cw Black Widow and dl103d is riding it like a champ and the SQ is stunning. Just while sitting watching, it looks terrible!
|
@bdp24 .
Very interesting and yes I do remember some b sides were one offs until an enterprising record label would release them as a collection on CD!
I did have quite a few singles when younger but I know I offloaded all of them to a local swap shop( English pawn shop).
Next time in my LRS I might just have a rummage through see if anything strikes me.
|
Reubent .
Just love Heartbeat City, have it on sacd, Vinyl and cassette.
Next up
Grand Funk ... The Live Album |
Had to shelve the Grand Funk Live album, just too beat up to listen to and enjoy. Cant all be winners at $1!
Much better now
Inner Secrets .. Santana |
Schools Out .... Alice Cooper.
This was our anthem every time term was over at school! |
Seven and The Ragged Tiger ... Duran Duran.
|
Live Dates ... Wishbone Ash.
Another $1 find and it looks and sounds like it has never been played.
Awesome Sauce!
Btw what happened to Slaw? Gone awol. |
@slaw
good to hear from you, hoped I had not upset you.
i hear you on time! However last week I was off due to no work and this week I took vacation and indeed flying to New Mexico tomorrow morning so will be radio silence from me on this thread until Tuesday next week
of course I will be streaming a Tidal on the plane and the hotel in the evening through my trusty phone and Klipsch earbuds.
|
|

New 180gm copy.

|
Home and able to spin some vinyl.
About Face ... David Gilmour |
Had no memory of buying this but darn it is good!
The Wake ... IQ |
Head On ... Bachmann Turner Overdrive
$1 vinyl that even after heavy cleaning still sounds like $1 vinyl .... Lol. Can't revive EVERY album.
Will have to look for a good copy as I really like the music. |
Cat Scratch Fever .... Ted Nugent.
$1 vinyl that now sounds like $5 vinyl, better result! |
The Golden age of Wireless ... Thomas Dolby.
Just fitted my Pickering XSV3000 with new stylus to my Denon DP1250 TT.
Wow! The old E stylus it came with was definitely junk! This even being brand new is digging information out of the grooves I have not heard before.
It's a good evening!
Have an ADC ZLM, ADC XLM and Empire 250E carts to try out as well. |
Communique ... Dire Straits.
Sizzling!
|
Vinyl Confessions .. Kansas
|
@reubent .
I could say something pithy like great minds think alike or fool’s seldom differ but I will just go for very odd!
Mind through these forums I have found a fellow member not half mile from myself! Here I thought was only audio obsessive in my town , now I know not alone...lol |
This is The Sea .... The Waterboys.
Direct Metal Master.
|

You love or hate em! |
|
Once Upon A Time ... Simple Minds.
|
Knee Deep in The Hoopla ... Starship
|
Welcome back Slaw.
Just slipped my ADC ZLM cart into the Black Widow and it leaves the Pickering XSV3000 in the dust. Much more balanced all round and tracking at just 1.0g.
Simple Minds Live!
|
@6t5-gto. Still one of the greatest rock shows I have ever attended was AC/DC way back 77 I think Complete with Bon Scott Angus was a total lunatic, we were front stage right against a speaker stack. After no more than 5 minutes Angus sweat was flying everywhere, no idea how he played with all that sweat and yes we got covered. Just so much energy it was electric!
|
@slaw .
They are all just old vintage mm carts from the 70,s. The Black Widow arm is a very light arm and works well with high compliance carts. I have a few models to work through to see which I prefer while I give the Nottingham TT a rest for a while.
Just good fun as these carts are mostly available for fairly low cost and whatever I do not like I can just resell again at about the same price . |
@bdp24 .
No TL did not, this was back in Blighty and I really do not recall who opened, obviously not anybody I was interested in or noteworthy .... Lol.
And yes being right in front of speaker stack I was deaf for 3 days and severe ringing and buzzing for quite some time after!
But was it worth it? Heck yes! |
Talking Back to the Night ... Steve Winwood |
|
