Hey Nutty, What a coincidence. I just finished listening to "Squawk" from Budgie tonight. I wonder if we're the only two people in Cincinnati who listened to Budgie tonight? BTW, I like "Napoleon Bona - Part II" too.... I have to give a shout out to my Sister Debby for my love of Budgie. I found an 8-Track of Squawk in her car in about 1975 and I've been listening to them ever since. RIP sweetie. I miss you......... |
Bettye LaVette is Bad A$$ and that's all I got to say about that...... I'll let her speak for herself. Try this one - Joan Armatrading's "Down to Zero" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHr6fY5ASLQ |
@slaw - The National is hosting a 3 day music festival here in Cincinnati this weekend (where the band members are from and the band was founded). The festival is called "The National Homecoming". Pretty cool lineup, but I can't go :~( Also, The Jayhawks - "Hollywood Town Hall" is a GREAT album. I only have it on an original CD. How's the reissue vinyl? I'll put it on my wish-list if you think it's worthy. |
I’m listening to Radio Paradise (again!) tonight. Honestly, if broadcast radio was this good, I’d have to get a tuner again. Do you guys listen to RP internet radio? It’s friggin’ awesome IMHO. I have my little Raspberry Pi music streamer/renderer playing it at low volume 24X7 in my basement listing room. I’ll drop in at 7am, lunch, after work and late at night just to hear what they are playing. I absolutely love their eclectic mix. BTW, playing right now of RP - THE classic screamin’ guitar jam - "Big Country". |
@ghosthouse - Radio Paradise doesn't really have on-air personalities or much commentary. It does have the owners - Bill and Rebecca Goldsmith, who personally curate the music and provide a bit of commentary.Bill was a radio DJ for many years, and a radio station manager. He has a great voice for radio and a very soothing delivery. What it does offer is an eclectic mix of rock, folk, singer/songwriter, alt-country, Americana, pop, jazz and classical music. They do an excellent job of transitioning from one song, to the next. Sometimes the music flows for hours on end. I too miss the great radio stations of the past. Radio Paradise fills the void. And then some...... |
@slaw and All, If you like Chris Hillman, The Byrds and Tom Petty, you should check out Roger McGuinn's "Back From Rio". Hillman and David Crosby join in, as well as a little Tom Petty and Elvis Costello. It's an awesome album. McGuinn's guitar sounds awesome too. Great songs, well recorded. Really good stuff...... |
Hey Nutty, Have you heard Trixie Whitley with the band Black Dub? Black Dub is an excellent album IMHO. So, I'll see you your Trixie Whitley and raise you a Holly Smith......... Holly Smith "Philosophy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbCczzHiN68&list=PL44792563C1049E8C |
Hey Slaw, "What a Killer!!!!!" "Cortez the Killer" is one of my all time favorite songs, PERIOD! The Built to Spill version is indeed excellente’. Last Friday night one of my neighbors was playing in the bar at my local hockey club. Half way through the set he ripped off a righteous version of the song. I had already had a few beers. It was outstanding....... But I still prefer Neil Young’s version on Live Rust. I just think Neil’s voice adds something to the feel of the song. Happy Weekend to All. Enjoy! |
slaw, You're on a roll. Keep it up..... I like your Bruce Cockburn pick. Check this out: I've got tickets to see Bruce Cockburn in June at The Fur Peace Ranch. If you've never heard of it, check it out on line. Interesting place for music lovers, to say the least. The concert hall seats 200 people. Up close and personal. Just the way I like it..... |
I heard something on Radio Paradise yesterday that blew my mind. Had to go to the record store and pick it up today. Just home and played it and LOVE IT! The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 1999 REMIX - Songtrack LP. The remixed long version of "It's All Too Much" is absolutely killer, IMHO. I know it might be blasphemy for true Beatles aficionados, but I really like this remixed compilation LP. The sound quality is outstanding and it sounds almost contemporary verses the originals. I'm diggin' it. And you say? |
Had an impromptu get-together of half of my music club tonight. Played some good tunes that turned into an Elvis Costello Love fest. Here are some of the highlights: The Beatles - "It’s All Too Much" long version and "Hey Bulldog" from Yellow Submarine Soundtracks LP The Bears - "Fear is Never Boring" Mark-Almond Band Live - "The City" Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express - "Compared to What" and "Inner City Blues" Smithereens - "Blood and Roses" Shovels and Rope - "Eric’s Birthday" and "This Ride" from Little Seeds Elvis Costello - "Almost Blue" from Imperial Bedroom (We’re Seeing EC this Summer) Elvis Costello - "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror" from the MTV Unplugged CD Elvis Costello - "At The Other End of The Telescope", "All This Useless Beauty", "Complicated Shadows" and "Why Can’t a Man Stand Alone" from All This Useless Beauty And the closer was a very Beatlesque "1967" from Adrian Belew’s Mister Music Head It was a great impromptu evening of music. Happy Daylight Saving Time to Everyone............. |
Rush - Xanadu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w3s2T0VBug One of my favorites from my teen years. A classic, epic, prog rock journey........ |
