I have been lucky in some instances.
I bought a Shure V15 in which I was the 3rd person to look at it at 7AM CST.
For another great deal I was the 368 person a day after the item was posted. (but that item may have been sold to "the more interesting/more really wanting to buy THAT one item ((I was looking for it for a whole year!))
The manner in which the seller chooses the buyer may determine who gets it. Most just take the first offer. some may research the offers and choose the 'preferred' buyer from the list. (I also would choose a later offer made in a reasonable time frame, if they had impeccable goN' credentials, and an interesting style, over a first offer from from an outsider, or one who never posts...)
I look as often as I get an opportunity. That may be as often as three times a day, to as few as once a week.
I do look even when not actively buying, as it is interesting to see what's going on.
