If pre-owned is an option, I'd suggest that he check out the Infinity ribbon speakers - which were designed before Harman bought out the name. The IRS Series (Epsilon, Omega, & Kappa - MSRP $10k,6K, 4K, respectively) and the Renaissance Series (90 & 80 - MSRP 4k,3k respectively) are amazing speakers that were poorly marketed. These speakers show up occasionally in the classified of A-gon and Ebay. The natural oak wood finish is beautiful. The Renaissance 90's have a huge fan club. I have the Renaissance 80's - which I'm keeping in storage for a future second system. I replaced them in my primary with E-stats - the only kind that could beat them (IMHO). Used is not an option. The infinity's are way to big.

I can't emphasiz enough to listen to the Newform research they are below the price range and imaging beats any thing at the local shops for twice the price.

OK. Check out the WAF acceptability of suggested speakers selah and newform. Other options abound, but come mostly as kits from madisound, e-speakers, zalytron (all .coms).

BTW, with some care, a kit speaker can look extremely good!
