Is this measured from your listening position 10 feet away? If so, measure once more at a distance of three feet from either the right or left speaker, and leave the volume at the same level that produces 66-70db from your listening position. Three feet is fairly close to 1 meter...the standard distance at which speaker output is measured. Then, we'll compare.

72 to 74 db from 3 ft away. and i sit 9 feet away, not 10.

My hunch is that you'll be fine with the 40wpc EL34 amp.

Be sure to use the 4 ohm taps if you have that option on the amplifier.
