Von Schweikerts VR4 JR's and SR's?

Skip both and go for used VR4 Gen III HSE...if you can get beyond their appearance. In their used price range of $2500-$3000 they are unbeatable.

Folks forget the VR4 Gen III HSE were Von Schweikert's reference speaker just a few years ago. The model sort of put VS on the map. They're a classic.

I can fully understand that. Perhaps it's because we trained our cat years ago to use a scratching post, but she has never shown the slightest interest in the VR4 Gen III HSE.

I'm fortunate.

The advice here is good, Cbucki sums it up very well. I auditioned both and went for the VR4SR's, largely based on having a very large room and liking the type of bass foundation that the larger woofers can provide. Used MK1 versions of both these are an excellent buy. AND for me it has caused a bad case of upgraditis that I am thoroughly enjoying in that the speaker just keeps getting better at approaching the pleasure of live music as I upgrade equipment and wire. I will bet that I will be satisfied with the Sr4's for at least a decade.

I experienced the same thing. You will hear every change and improvement in the signal chain no matter how tiny. At a certain point in my system configuration when I owned an APL Denon 3910, the music was simply in the room. I sold the APL for financial reasons, but with that player in my system the "realness" was phenomenal.

BTW, the source I have now is pretty damn good, too (Modwright Sony 999ES Signature Platinum).
