Efficient bookshelf speakers for my office

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of putting together a simple office system with the Coincident Dynamo II and a pair of standmount speakers.  The Dynamo puts out 8 wpc, so I need a pretty efficient pair of speakers.  Only looking for bass down to 45HZ or so.  Tower speakers won't work due to the office setup.  Will sometimes crank it up a bit, but generally looking at listening at 75db or so.  Would welcome any recommendations.  Prefer a smoother, warmer speaker to a hyper-detailed one.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Best, Scott

There's a nice pair of Joseph Audio RM7si Signatures for sale here now that do just what you're looking for and sound fantastic.  Best of luck.

I was going to wait to see what people posted because this is not my specific area of expertise. The Joseph Audio speakers are typical sensitivity for audiophile type bookshelves (86db / 2.83V). This means you really need a good amount of power to drive them to any sort of decent volume level (i.e. 50-100 watts).

For 8 watt SET tube amps, you really need to look for high efficiency speakers. It depends on your budget and what you want. These are usually horn-loaded speakers or single driver full range speakers. If you have a low budget, maybe try Klipsch Reference RP-160M bookshelves, which have a sensitivity of 96db:

Lot’s of choices. I’m sure others have better recommendations. Some speakers can have efficiency up to 101db.

How efficient? I just posted a free design for a 91 dB single driver which can fit in a very small space.

I should mention, the design is free, I'm not making money except to get people interested in DIY.

Best,
