Buying speakers ten or more years old a good idea?

Just wondering , if it is a loss of advances in speaker manufacture, or if to many problems arise to justify the large savings over younger or new speakers

been trying to upgrade from original andras and cant find anything better yet - and have been listening to really top stuff costing 25k and more
I just recently bought a pair of psb500 loudspeakers (made in 1992) with the factory recommended stands from the original owner who still had the manuals. I agree that the technology in speakers have not advanced like the amps and receivers have. I think, if taken care of, once a good speaker always a good speaker. I wasn't familiar with the psb brand and after a little research, I realized I was getting a pair of speakers out of my price range for well within my budget. Loving them!
Certain types of speakers might be a problem. Electrostatic.. Even at five years... Once they get old, you may have a problem with the thin film, and the electronics used to charge it.
Old  15 years old etc.. Magnepan speakers tend to come unglued..
The wires delaminating is a PITA to fix except for the adventurous.
(Newer Maggies the claim is the glue will not come apart with age.)

20 years old nearly any speaker with a crossover may need new capacitors in the crossover. Woofers with foam needingto be refoamed. This is a pretty easy job, Kits are around.

There ARE 50/80 year old WONDERFUL speakers.. And many in between.
