Denon's new Blu-Ray player

Denon is releasing a hi-end Blu-Ray player for 2000.00.

With due respect to Denon and Sony, $2000 is a lot for a potential boat anchor.

Same applies to HD-DVD players.

I'm surprised Denon's player isn't multi-format in keeping with their other universal players. I guess there's a licensing roadblock, though. Samsung seems to have hit a wall with their announced Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player.

Personally, I'm waiting for the smoke to clear.
Way too much to pay for marginal improvement. I agree totally with Tvad. Let it settle out.
At least the new cheaper Sony plays CD. Something the original did not.
I have one of each of the Sony's connected to a 46" LCD XBR Sony set and a Sony 40" XBR direct view. Upscaled DVD looks about as good. Kinda a disappointment overall.
It takes a much larger screen to take advantage of high definition. It's funny what people consider too expensive for certain improvements. Some people don't mind spending a whole lot for a power cord or interconnects but balk at paying for real differences.
Denon has TWO Blu-ray players coming out, both were on display @ CEDIA this past week.

Rwear, I agree, you sort or kid yourself thinking 1080p is that much an improvement on a 40" set. Step up to 70'+ and you will be agape!

I'm happy to pay for improvements after they've been proven to have staying power. Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are walking a tight rope.

However, if one chooses to spend his money on improvements that may be short term, then that's his prerogative. I'm simply sharing a personal viewpoint that clearly may not apply to everyone.
