Buying from Europe

Anyone with experience buying used from Europe on Audiogon or other markets? Are there tariffs or other extra charges? Any suggestions of how to do due diligence?
Thanks,

I believe you are allowed to purchase items to value of $800 from outside the USA before you are supposed to incurr any tariffs.
And of course it all depends on how the seller lists price and items on their paperwork.
I have bought numerous vinyl from Europe and a couple of phono cartridges from Japan.
All with zero issues, most expensive was a cartridge at $869, technically some tarrif but I was never asked for any additional funds from anywhere.
I’ve purchased several pre-owned items from private sellers in Europe - up to US$1200. Never had any customs duties. One shipment got temporarily lost but was quickly located after a ’claim’ was filed.

Re: due diligence. Make sure:
- The seller has a valid history of positive feedback.
- The seller provides excellent communication and promptly answers any and all questions.
- The item is fully insured and sent with a tracking #.
- Pay with a credit card instead of bank transfer.

Re: additional fees.
- If converting US$ to another currency, use a credit card that doesn’t charge a conversion fee.
- If using Paypal and converting to another currency for an expensive item, please contact me. I figured out how to avoid a hefty Paypal conversion fee.

I bought a pair of Rogers LS3/5A's from a seller in Lithuania via EBAY. $650 + shipping. Arrived safely - well-packed! No custom fees. Very good deal!
