I own Magnepan 20.7 speakers just bought this year (had 3.6 Maggies). The new speakers are a good jump up the audiophile mountain. Soon after I also upgraded my DAC to a Marantz SACD/DAC SA-10. Another refinement. I already owned ’expensive’ IC (average $900/m) but just older Pangea power cords. I splurged on the ’latest’ Pangea power cords and yes, more clarity, better attack compared to the older versions. I was surprised they were that much better. *I actually got rid of all the earliest versions, and only use the middle ones on non-critical stuff like TV).So for me, the actual upgrade of the equipment made the most positive difference. The power cords are more like a dessert after a good meal, or the ’icing on the cake’.
And the inprovement from the better power cords helped me to decide to splurge for high end duplex outlets from Furutech as my latest upgrade. A REVELATION. Like now the icing on my cake was made by a five star Michelin chef.
I would still say for anyone confused about what to do about power cords or stuff like that, is to not spend too much. I highly recommend trying a cheap Pangea, the one meter AC14 SE mkII Signature is only $49. free shipping*. I use them on $13,000 bits of gear. And they do enough to keep me happy. *though I confess they are connected to $280 a pop Furutech Duplex. An I do have a few $260 for plugs alone cords. but the Pangea do just as well in most applications.
Anyway, consider 10% of your gear cost for your wire as a simple guide. Until you are ready, and confident enough to do whatever you want. (like me)
added: Audio Advisor is the only (exclusive) dealer selling Pangea. Be aware the old Pangea have the same markings as the new. so nothing says MKII or Signature on cables. the actual physical difference is ONLY a set of shiny metallic blue threads added intermittently to the sheath.
