Low Volume Listening - XLR Cables ??

Yes.. the theory vs real world...I can guarantee some XLR ARE BETTER at low level detail than others. Theory or no theory. And it has zero to do with 'not meeting specs'.   
I have no fish to fry on XLR brand. so not recommendations since how long is not given. Though the extra meters usually cost less than the first for many cables.            
My Kimber KS1116 first meter costs $900 or so. But the seven meter pair I bought total cost was $3,200. instead of 7 times $900. ($6300)

I would try "The Cable Company" they loan cables, and you do pay some, but get the credit back if you buy anything. The have good advice too.

 All of my  XLR’s are Analisis Plus.   I am oh they are very neutral and sound great  add any volume. Before you spend a fortune go to a guitar shop and buy Mogami Gold, ensure that they will let you return them if they don’t  meet your needs. My 3m AP XLR’s  listed for $1100 new. Fortunately I found mine on eBay.  Used.

@oldtiger Really interesting suggestion with the Mogami Gold. Absolutely worth a test drive.
