Thegoldenear, the idea is to use the Sumiko method to see if you can get the speakers (beginning with the right hand speaker) into a position that sounds good...taking into consideration the present location of your furnishings. If so, then you can proceed to the left hand speaker. If you can get them both positioned so the sound is optimized without moving any furniture, then you're done.
The other positive aspect of doing this exercise is that you may find that positioning your speakers while leaving your furniture alone may not work, and you need to look at other options. However, at the very least you won't have spent any money until you've exhausted the placement options with your present room configuration.
