And to Tvad's concern, you can organize playlisst via albums so that you can play the entire CD as originally recorded.I have tried this, albeit only with the iTunes system. I am not concerned with the order of the songs. I know this is easy to do. What I am concerned with is the gaps, or "cut-offs" between the tracks, which destory the seamless segues between tracks. For example, it's my understanding that if one were to download "Dark Side of the Moon", when one played it back, the songs would not flow from one to the next without a brief hiccup between tracks. Now, I could be mistaken, but this was my initial experience. Also, it takes some extra setting to do this. One must select "Join Tracks" or something like that from the iTunes menu. It's easier to put a silver disc in a CD player and press play.
For me, HD based music system's do not have the ease of use of CD players. That's my gripe about most things associated with computers. Too fussy. I want my computer to operate like my telephone. Pick up the handset, dial, and talk. I don't have to know how the phone works...it just does. No software upgrading. No de-fragging of hard drives. No worries of compatibility, etc...
I'm open to HD based music servers, though. They just need to operate as easily as a CD player, play the music as the artist intended (without hiccups and truncation), and not play the music from a compressed or inferior format to what's available on a disc.
