Audio Aero Capitole MKII SE direct into a Pass X250.5

or

Marantz SA11 (used for redbook mostly) into Audio Research LS17 into Pass X250.5?

I'd go with the ARC LS17-Marantz combo. A good preamp will usually sound better than a cd player with a volume control(digital volume?)plus you can try SACD.
