different approach to my cd player dilemma

thanks for all info on past question,see interested in moving to dac, last week,how does tube output stage effect the equation?been looking at sony 9100 es with mods by modwright,there platinum signature addition,is this money well spent,a bit more than budget,but could sell some old gear to come up with extra,4300.00,thanks again ahead of time as always 2 heads are better than one,robin

Didn't follow your previous thread ... but if tubes is part of the equation, have you considered the Prima Luna Prologue 8 CD player?

Are you talking about spending $4300 on a new Modwright Sony 9100ES? That's how your questions reads, but frankly it doesn't make any sense. That player is many, many years old, and it's unlikely you could buy one new.

The 9100ES was replaced by the Sony 999ES, which Modwright also modified.

Modwright's current flagship disc player is the Sony 5400ES (CD/SACD only), which costs $1995 plus the cost of a player, which runs ~$1500. So, about $3500 total.

The Modwright Sony 9100ES occasionally appears used in the Audiogon classifieds, but it's a three generation old model, so I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for one, if that.
