What are the charesterics in comparing each of these?

"Typical speakers". Just because an amplifier does not double power into half the impedance does not mean it cannot drive such a speaker perfectly well, without frequency response variation. Doubling power is not a requirement for that.

Just give it a listen. If it sounds good, its a pretty good design. Bad ones don't sound good. its funny how that works.
