Set up problem?

Looking for some direction, I'm still pretty new at this. I have a Music hall MMF 9.1. On every record I play I hear a lot of noise from the left channel. I get some from the right channel, which to me sounds like a normal amount of surface noise, but the left channel seems like more than that. Could this be a problem with set up?

the jolida uses tubes,might just be a tube problem and that's all.

Schipo's correct.

Swapping the interconnects at the linestage will tell you if the problem is with the preamp or in front of it. If you swap the ICs and the problem still occurs in the same channels, then it may be a tube (or tubes).

I swapped the the ICs at the Jolida and the noise went from left to right.

To make sure it is the cartridge you might also switch the leads from the cartridge to the arm but this is probably unnecessary, just make sure it is not the interconnect (unlikely) by changing out the left for right interconnect , i.e. switching both ends.

I'm not clear. When you say you swapped the ICs at the Jolida, do you mean the Jolida JD9? When the noise changed from left to right, was it after you had swapped the ICs the the JD9's inputs from the turntable, or from the JD9's outputs to your linestage preamp?
