Set up problem?

Looking for some direction, I'm still pretty new at this. I have a Music hall MMF 9.1. On every record I play I hear a lot of noise from the left channel. I get some from the right channel, which to me sounds like a normal amount of surface noise, but the left channel seems like more than that. Could this be a problem with set up?

I'm not clear. When you say you swapped the ICs at the Jolida, do you mean the Jolida JD9? When the noise changed from left to right, was it after you had swapped the ICs the the JD9's inputs from the turntable, or from the JD9's outputs to your linestage preamp?

The noise switched from left to right after I switched the IC's going into the JD9 from the turntable. I did not switch the ones going into my preamp.

OK. Then your problem is at the table, either with the cartridge, phono ICs or set-up.

To rule out the phono ICs, switch them at both ends: the JD9 inputs and the table outputs. If the noise stays in the same channel, then the problem is with the cartridge or set-up.

Check to make sure the cartridge leads are connected securely.

I switched both ends and the noise is still in the left channel. The leads are secure.

If you bought the table from a dealer I'd contact him for assistance.

Or, you could install a different cart and listen for a change in the noise.
