Sonically, the very first batch, cut by Stan Ricker, are all great. Of course musically the albums seem as if chosen by nine year old children, but what the heck. Once Gary Giorgi started doing the mastering the wheels came off.
All of the UHQRs sound fantastic and are worth every penny, though again, the question of musical selection creeps in. Who needs another copy of Dark Side? And Supertramp? Cat Stevens? Please. Then again, once you hear one, it wouldn't even matter if they were remastering Jim Neighbors.
My favorites from the regular series are:
John Klemmer "Touch"
Ellington And Armstrong "Together Again For The First Time" and "The Reunion"
Yes "Close To The Edge"
The Doors eponymous LP
Greatful Dead "American Beauty"
"A Jolly Christmas From Frank Sinatra"
I think that the Dark Side UHQR is actually a half step behind the Japanese Pro Use half speed, but the Supertramp has to be heard to be believed.
Unfortunately, the Stones and Beatles remasters are horid garbage as is "Aja" and so many others. Too bad really. The rare "Katy Lied" may be the best pressing of this jem, but the master tapes are so screwed up that it's kind of like polishing a turd.
