Jazz must have pressings???

acoustic guitar? not electric I presume...

I like Charlie Byrd but my knowledge is limited.

Go to Amazon and buy a used copy of: "All Music Guide to Jazz" The most current edition, the 6th STARTS at $25 used and up. (PS I own two copies, not for sale!)
The next best is All Music Guide to Jazz third edition (1999) which starts at $2 used.
The 1999 edition is just as good (even better if you only want Jazz pre- year 2000.
An excellent guide. and has great ratings and small reviews for most recording sessions.
I have used it to purchase 99% of my JAzz LPs and CDs.
(1,800 JAzz LPs, and 700 Jazz CDs.)
I actually mark the book with what I own so I can keep it straight and not purchase dups. I always keep one in the car, along with the "All Music Guide to Rock".

Philjolet, archtops with fixed pickups are my thing. They're spendy but worth it. CB is fabulous. I've too many favorites to mention, Montgomery, Burrell, Green, the list is endless.

Nice to have the book Elizabeth recommends. I don't think the guides are published anymore since they went to the web at allmusic.com. You can spend endless time there searching by artist, genre, album, etc. and finding out artists similar to your favorites.
