Grounded Power Cord for Turntable - why not??

None of my turntables use a grounded power cord, and none of them use a quality power cord. I am planning on changing the power cord on my JVC TT101 and was thinking of grounding it but am rather hesitant due to the above observation.

The reason I want to change the lamp-cord to a shielded, high quality cord is to both give the TT cleaner power and to prevent emi from leaking out of the cord into the myriad of signal carriers that surround it.

What say ye?

I understand the concern on creating a ground loop and in fact I have floated the ground on my other sources; but I never thought to float it at the device side.

Just to be clear here I am not talking about floating the safety equipment ground on a piece of equipment which is designed for its use...

I am referring to the shield of a PC....

I reversed the float on my phono-pre, didn't have much time to listen but George Shearing never sounded better. Now on to the cd player...

Jim, I understand your concern and we are in accord. But as a matter of course I always float the ground on all source components (but not on the pre-amp), and come to think of it my previous amp was floated as well. I guess I will experiment with my current amps, but perhaps I should call the manufacturer first.

Just make sure SOMETHING is directly connected to your house ground. Typically that can be the preamp, if everything else is connected to the preamp.

As both the phono pre and the cd player were previously floated on the power supply side and now are grounded on that side and floated on the device side I am pleased to report a clearly audible improvement. Best 15 minutes I've invested in this system. I am awaiting new pc's for my amps, turntable and tuner and will follow suit there as well. Great hobby this.
