my past experience with Purist products led me to believe that their goal, by virtue of their proprietary jackets on the cable to eliminate outside interference and the use of special alloy wire, was to provide as neutral a connection between components as they could. Is this "colored" cable an abberation or an intentional design choice?

Are you referring to the Aqueous Anniversary Contego? My experience with the Aqueous interconnects is that they are more neutral than the Venustas.
I suppose this all depends on which PAD product one chooses as being representative of a neutral sound.
Furthermore, if the Dominus interconnect or speaker cable are the chosen neutral cable, then the universe of those who have owned these will be fairly small, and the experiences of those of us with knowledge of Venustas, Museaus, or Aqueous will be of little value in this discussion.
