Honestly, and please understand I'm not trying to be argumentative, I am very
doubtful that anything other than a change in your electronics...perhaps the
preamp, is going to correct the forward sound you describe.
Different speakers would do it: some with a more recessed/polite sound due to
a dip in the presence band.
Wire won't do it, IMO. I know that's not what you want to hear, but having tried
many different brands and designs of wire, I strongly believe it to be true.
I owned an ARC Ref 3 for a short while that had a presentation closer to what
you describe than have all the other preamp I have owned, but you will have to
experiment.
