living by the sea

I live near the sea (between 1/4-1/2 mile), and have never encountered problems that related to living near the sea, to my knowledge.

If you live right on the shoreline, in an area with high winds and tides, it could be problematic, I suppose. Lived here continusouly since 1993, and, as stated, no problems that I can associate with where I live.

I am retired, and wouldn't want to live without my system, no matter where I was living, so I do empathize with you.

Why not there are plenty of classy boats with classy music systems designed for that purpose in case you're living right on the beach.
My parents live 2...300m away from the beach and don't experience anything corroded because of salt.

In 1980, I bought a 1977 car from someone who lived right next to the beach. The car was probably 100 feet from the water. 3 years later, the entire car rusted apart, even the firewall!!! Of course, it was a 1977 Dodge Aspen which was made during Chryslers dark days so that may have had something to do with it.

I would proceed with caution.

It will depend on your use of air conditioning. If you allow the temp to go high to save electricity, your indoor humidity will also rise. Part of air conditioning's function is removing moisture from the air. I grew up near the ocean with a frugal dad who didn't mind indoor temps of 76-78. Everything metal developed a patina of oxidation and everything made of wood (doors, cabinets) all swelled. Keep your temp below 74 and you should do fine--as I learned in my adult years when I was in charge of the thermostat (and paying the bills)! I'd still unplug and clean/treat all my connections once per year (which I do regardless of where I live).
